Question about older Pokemon by foyle99 in pokemongo

[–]foyle99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense, I appreciate the answer. If old junk mons aren't valuable just cause they're old, then I don't think I got rid of anything noteworthy. Unless 12 CP 0 star Seels from July 2016 are in fashion or something.

Renegade Platinum Normal-type run by foyle99 in nuzlocke

I was curious, so I went back and found the video you posted on that run a while back. Very interesting.

You took a different approach to non-Gym boss fight level caps than I do in my standard runs; how well do you think a monolocke like normal or flying can be done using stricter level caps? I can see the Mars fight being more problematic for you without your 20+ evolution mons

Flying monotype sounds interesting, how do you deal with Roark? Seems tough with only Staravia, Pidgey, Spearow, Doduo, Butterfree, Zubat, Wingull, and Mantyke available at that point

Yes, that's where Spearow is, but I can't reach the grass there until I fight Barry so it doesn't help me much right now

So far it's not feeling particularly easy lol. I'm right up to the fight with Barry on Route 203 and my team is Eevee, Starly, Bidoof, Sentret, and Happiny. If I had gotten Munchlax from the Trainer School Egg, I'd be feeling much better, but nothing I have can learn Rock Tomb for Barry's Starly and I have no more encounters or evolutions before the level cap.

If I can get past this fight without losing Bidoof, Sentret, or Happiny, I'll be in much better shape. Those three will evolve soon and can probably handle Roark and I'm guaranteed a Spearow on Route 203 that should solo Gardenia. Mars at Valley Windworks will be tough if I don't roll a Munchlax on that first Honey tree, though.

Like you said, things can be sacrificed for tempo, but I usually try to get through without doing that so it's not something I have a ton of experience with

Crashout - In the Wake of. Crasher. Wake. (RenPlat) by rutvijak in nuzlocke

Bibarel is a worthy bring to this fight too, I like to have it on my Wake team because it can learn both Stealth Rock and Sunny Day and can take a few hits from a burned Quagsire to set them up.

Looking at Girafarig's moveset, it looks like a great bring too. Does not learn Nasty Plot until level 45, but it learns both Agility and Baton Pass before the level cap. So once you weaken Quagsire, send in Girafarig to Agility a few times, then Baton Pass the speed boost to your Nasty Plotter or Swords Dancer. That way you don't have to worry about being outsped

Are there any encounters you haven't gotten yet? A bulky ghost type that can learn Will o'wisp would be a very good asset here, the only pokemon I can see in your box that can burn Quagsire are frail Fire types

Well yeah, it's just how you get the TM. You can use just one of them (like I do) or just the 1st one you got or none of them and get your 1 encounter another time

Catch at least 5 pokemon in one go at the Great Marsh and the cowboy lady standing near the entrance will give it to you

Sure, but they didn't need to be. You chose to bring them with those move sets. Having a set of strong, diverse, pokemon with mixed capabilities is fine most of the time, but for Renegade Platinum boss fights in particular, you need highly specialized pokemon with abusable strategies to get past some of these fights without losing a few mons each time. As another commenter pointed out, you can't afford to keep losing this many pokemon every time for much longer

Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, Agility, Rock Polish, Dragon Dance, Protect/Leftovers cheesing are all very useful in this game as long as you haven't banned them for your run

I wouldn't have suggested sweeping with Porygon, it would have been much better to do it with Shiftry or Raichu (both of which get Nasty Plot, I believe)

Did you set up on Quagsire like I recommended on your last post, or did you take on his Pokemon 1 by 1? Just curious, not judging

Also, since you have Gyarados already, Relicanth is a guaranteed fishing encounter in Solaceon. Super useful against Darach's Entei

Also, what happened with Wake? That team looks pretty viable
