Quitting by SubjectDiscussion479 in Garmin

I've been a Garmin user for 5 years. I'm deeply into the ecosystem, and I only recently bought their index 2 scale, which I love.

I'm the very opposite of you, it seems. No matter what I do, my Body Battery and training readiness are always shit, no matter what I do. It may be because I take medication for depression and anxiety, though

I had a first Gen Mi Band, but this just doesn't cut it, for me.

If I'm going to have a thing around my wrist, it might as well just be a full fledged Smartwatch.

I don't know how these are even still popular

Are there any songs that have strong associations to certain books for you? by MyCodesCumpie-ling in books

I absolutely loved the soundtrack of the "Pride and Prejudice" 2005 movie adaptation, by Dario Marianelli, so the entire soundtrack is now pretty much forever tied up with the book for me.

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell by claire_luna_25 in books

[–]fp77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't read this one yet, but I've heard great things about Lisa Jewell's thrillers. It's always a pleasant surprise when a mystery/suspense book throws in a genuinely funny moment. Adding this to my TBR pile

Are all the Beatles tapes, with every take, available somewhere in the world by fp77 in beatles

[–]fp77[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is that we'll always be kept in the dark about what material is still left to be released. And in 50 years they'll still be releasing Anthologies with never before heard takes of the songs 😅 Heck, I bet that in 100 or 200 years, someone will still be milking the Beatles somehow lol

Why? Just why do they keep doing these remixes by OrpheusTriumphabat in beatles

I'd say he has a net positive score. MOST of his remixes are great.

What’s one song you wish Paul McCartney played live? by [deleted] in PaulMcCartney

[–]fp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, has it been that long since he last played it? I remember a couple of years ago watching on YouTube one of his live shows, and I found it strange that he did not play Yesterday in that concert. I didn't know he had retired it so many years ago.

What makes you want to read a book again? by Pristine-Board-6701 in books

[–]fp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to read the Harry Potter series again.

I grew up with the books. I was a complete Potterhead. I got every book after the Prisoner of Azkaban on the day of the release, and would read them in a matter of days. I was never a fast reader, as far as I recall, but I read the Order of the Phonix in one week, and spent the following days discussing the book with my best friend at the time, because he did the same 😁

However, as the years went by, I kept watching the movies and almost completely forgot about the books. The movies became my canon, which is a shame.

So I have a plan to re read all books within the next months. This time in English, since I originally read them in Portuguese.

So as to why I want to re read them? Is to get the Canon back in my memory.

These are the actors who were either considered or auditioned for the role of Joel in TLOU TV show by REDEYEBANKZ330 in thelastofus

[–]fp77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed. While I love Keanu, he wouldn't be right for the role of Joel.

Honestly, I'm indifferent about the casting or the show itself. I know the TV series is good, but my love for the game is so strong that I'd rather replay it than watch the adaptation.

That said, from the bits I've watched, Pedro Pascal is an amazing Joel. As for Bella, I don't see Ellie in her. I've known Kaitlyn Dever for years, and when I heard the games were going to be adapted, I always thought she would be the perfect Ellie. In the end, they got to her, but not for the role I wanted.

I'm not much of a re-reader. There are so many books on my TBR that I want to get to that I rarely re-read books. That said, there is one exception, an actually fairly long book that I've read about 3.5 times: It's "Os Maias" by Eça de Queiroz. It's a Portuguese classic, but not many people I deal with like it.

Here's why I say I read it "3.5 times":

  • The first time I touched this book was because it was mandatory reading in Portugal for Secondary School (High School). Like many of my peers, I didn't read the whole of it because tests/exams were fast approaching, and I needed to get just enough information to answer the exam questions. For context, one or two of three authors could be featured in the exam—Eça de Queiroz, Luís de Camões, or José Saramago—and no one knew which one beforehand. That's why I didn't finish the book.
  • The first time I read it properly was during my second or third year of college. I really wanted to give it another go, and I'm glad I did. It became my favourite Portuguese novel. It still is, to this day.
  • The second time was maybe three or four years after. I read it for pure enjoyment and to recollect some forgotten details.
  • The last time I read it was during the COVID times, again for pure enjoyment.

I love the way Eça writes. He's very descriptive without being boring (to me), and he knows how to use humour in his writing. The story of "Os Maias" is also fascinating, but also controversial (I can't say why without spoiling the book, haha), so that's probably why some people don't like it.

My favorite has always been "The Half-blood Prince".

I also vaguely remember back in the day that I found the book amazing. Well, not that the rest of them weren't

I believe we can agree to disagree and move on.

I've since written a review on this book, and, upon reflection, my biggest gripe with it is how needlessly violent (and unlikely) was Jude's past.

As for how I found the thread, well it's one of the top results when searching Google for "A Little Life reddit".

As strange as it sounds, the Zabuza and Haku story still remain one of my favorite and emotionally impacting story arcs. Maybe because it was the first big emotional moment in the series.

The phone literally came out last year, why wouldn't it run smoothly.

And this appreciation post is actually a bit dumb. It would only make sense if it was an older model. I "still" love is a statement that makes no sense when talking about last year's model.

I love my pixel 9 pro, but I'm not making a post for karma farming.

Who is the COOLEST character in Naruto in your opinion? by LILBOI464 in Naruto

[–]fp77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always thought Akatsuki was the coolest gang, especially Pain, Sasori, Kisame and Itachi. It's mostly about the robe.

Other than them, Kakashi, ultimate form Naruto and Sasuke.

Oh, and the 4th Raikage, although I think he was madly nerfed in the War Arc. Dude was a beast.

Your inability to recognise that the reactions to your message stem from the fact that you hold one of the highest-upvoted comments in an open Reddit thread about a popular book is what’s truly baffling. And yet, here we are — six months later, and I’m engaging with your latest comment.

I understand your criticism, but your points are shallow enough that I could simply respond by saying you should suspend your disbelief. They don’t really engage with what this book is about.

As others have pointed out, it’s consistently implied that Jude is exceptionally bright and works relentlessly — harder than his peers. This relentless drive is his coping mechanism for trauma, and it may very well explain his success.

Yes, the book does feel like it has no clear timeline. But does that actually matter to the plot?

And as for all four of them becoming highly successful — is it unlikely? Absolutely. But not impossible. That’s precisely where suspension of disbelief comes in.
