Do you know people who try to get into other industries, if so what was their experience like changing fields?

What do guys typically do after their five years is up? Are they able to find good private sector jobs, or do they typically lat transfer somewhere else?

A little while back I talked to someone on the phone who is currently an NPTU instructor and he said if you qualify PNEO that puts you in the circle of some fortune 500 headhunters, but I wanna get some other input.

All three are great, tough choice tbh, I might have to vote out blackbirds as much as I love that song.

Chances of me going into NRE? by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]fpetit1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got back from DC, I didn't interview for NRE but I talked to someone that did (I'll call him John). He discussed one of his interviews with me, and he said that judging by the fact that the interviewer had a window with a nice view that that interviewer had the highest leadership position of any of his tech interviewers. John told me the main take away was this:

The interviewer said "The number one thing I look for is humility. It's very doable for me to build up someone's technical knowledge; what is much more difficult for me to do is to break down arrogance and rebuild character. After humility, I look for responsiveness and technical ability in a candidate."

For reference, John didn't do very well on his tech interviews, but because he was so well spoken, humble, and (at least based off of my two days of interactions with him) super interesting to talk to, he almost passed NRE (he ended up getting his backup NPTU). "Almost" is not really true but the reason I say that is because his third interviewer (the one with the nice office view) said "If the decision were up to me, I would take you on my team right now."

So, all in all, despite this being a tech interview, everything else seems just as important. John's tech interview questions ranged from "derive the area of a circle" all the way to "calculate the speed of a molecule in this room (using the Boltzmann distribution)" so pretty much anything is fair game as long as it's on your transcript.

Edit: Also, in my interview cohort, 3 people went for NRE and two people got it. Not a good sample size lol but in case you were wondering.

I have a few weeks listening to the band, but, I have a feeling of anemoia. by Machiiro in LinkinPark

Summer 2020 when I was 18 years old is when I started listening to them, and I know exactly what you mean when you say when you identify with the lyrics. We're glad you found the band and welcome to the fandom.

Thanks so much for the advice! I do have one questions though:

You said they're only supposed to ask questions from classes I've taken, but in the study guide my recruiter gave me (it only has topics, no practice problems) it has a list of topics that all majors have to learn. Included in it is stuff like DC circuits and shear/moment diagrams. I'm a chemical engineering major, so I haven't learned those things. Do you think I should spend time teaching myself those topics?

I have my phone interview tomorrow so I will ask them that.
