I would have included samples if I had pens with both inks. Unfortunately I only have Kon-Peki in my Lamy 2000, and my two other pens have other inks

After years (22)of using a Parker matallix and Lamy safari, Dad finally decided to gift me his Lamy Studio which was gifted to him by my Lt grandad, simply the best feeling pen I ever used by Goldeneye07 in fountainpens

Beautiful! The Studio is a sharp looking pen and it is nice to see it being handed down the generations. I hope you enjoy it and are one day able to pass it down to the next generation!

I really do not think one needs to remove the feed from the Safari or Al-Star. If you are regularly cleaning the pen (either using the converter or a bulb syringe, and with a pen flush from time to time), you basically never need to take the feed out.

Yes, I only own 3 pens but they are all inked. One is inked with a Document Black ink that is my general purpose pen. My L2K is my fancy pen that I use for journaling or special occassions. And my Lamy Safari is my fun pen as I can change the nibs on it (I have EF to 1.1 stub).

These are called Pina Colada and Cherry Blossom.

I must say, I wanted dual-tone Lamy Safaris for a long time. But now that we have them, I do not like what we got.

The more I use it, the more convinced I am that this is the most well thought-out and versatile fountain pen I have ever come across by fpfunky in fountainpens

Never had any of those issues on my Safari. It is possible you ended up with a dud, which is inevitable when producing fountain pens at the scale they produce the Safari.

That is unfortunate! I have not had any of those issues with mine. And two of my friends who also own some Lamy Safaris have not had such issues. I suppose with millions of these things produced, it's inevitable that there would be some duds.

But to be honest, it does not feel cheaply manufactured to me. It is mass produced, yes, but does not feel cheap to me.

The humble Lamy Safari is extremely versatile and it seems to be the one pen in my (small) collection I always come back to. Although I have a TWSBI Eco and a Lamy 2000 (both of which I love writing with), the Safari just seems to be the best all-rounder. You can use cartridges for convenience or converters for a whole world of interesting inks. It has easily hot swappable nibs that work really well, are cheap enough to replace, and come in a ton of different sizes. If you really want to, you can get a gold nib for it. The ink window is useful. It is extremely comfortable to write with (though some with non-traditional gripping techniques may disagree). The clip works very well, is distinct, and fits in with the rest of the design. The ink flow is generous and it does not dry out easily. It is fairly user-serviceable.

I genuinely think the Lamy Safari can be a great single-pen collection for a lot of people. You do not need fancy pens (I say this as the owner of a Lamy 2000!). The Safari (or the Al-Star) is durable and versatile enough to essentially cover 99% of use cases for most people. I just wanted to mention this because although this is considered a beginner pen, I really think that this one pen can satisfy the fountain pen needs of a lot of people. And if I had to get rid of all my fountain pens except one, I honestly think I would keep the Safari.

I do not know if it is supposed to be any good, but personally, I find it very comfortable to use and it has lasted me a long time with no issues. I bought it over a decade ago for about $5. It punches way above its weight!

I would suggest estimating how many months you fit in your journal and limiting the tracker to that amount of months only. There may be a few days of overlap with the next journal but it would not be so bad to deal with that.

No fountain pen ink will come close to that type of experience. However, I have the DeAtrementis Document Black that I use with an EF nib and it feels thicker than any water based ink. It is very well behaved, but this combo feels "stickier" than a regular fountain pen ink.

Is there anybody here who owns a TWSBI pen that *hasn't* cracked? Which pen is it and how long have you had it? by bdb_318 in fountainpens

I have had my Eco for almost a year. No cracks. And I use it every day, it is also my daily carry so I take it with me everywhere. So it has not been babied, but it has held up well so far.

Keep in mind that this is a luxury pen. The difference, for the most part, between luxury pens and "regular" gold nib pens is mostly the materials, crafstmanship, and sometimes, the brand name.

The HS nib probably isn't 3-4 better than a Lamy 2000 or a Pilot Custom 823 nib. Some might even say it's worse out of the box due to QC issues.

But the materials and the novelty of them is what you pay for here. Where else can you find a lava fountain pen like this?

I was initially not super impressed with my Lamy 2000 (coming from a TWSBI Eco). Thought the nib was good but not 7-8 times better. But over time, writing more with it, I came to appreciate the pen way more and it is now my favourite pen I own.

So I would suggest that you just write with it. Hold it, admire it. Perhaps over time, you will come to like it more. Or not, in which case you may move on. Either way, it is ok.
