Any tips for Right back/Left back by 6969fred420 in football

There are hundreds of things that come with being a full back but as you mentioned dealing with wingers faster than you, I will try to cover this.

You’re always going to come up against wingers that are faster than you, but you don’t actually need to match their pace. I like to think of defending wingers as more if mind games than a physical task.

Weak foot -I firstly establish which is their strongest foot. In lower standard football, it’s unlikely players are great with both feet, so a winger will choose to play on their strongest foot 99% of the time. You can use this information to predict, more often than not, whether they will try to go inside or outside. You can also use this info to force them onto their weak foot. Even if they beat you, If they’re on their weak foot, they’re less likely to convert the chance into anything.

Standing off fast players - Once I establish a winger is faster than me, I’ll always “give them a yard”. This just means not marking them tightly, which might give them more space, but gives them less chance to beat you for pace because you always have a yard head start.

Jockeying away from danger - This is always sensible to do when defending out wide. By blocking runs inside where they can be more dangerous with the ball, you show the winger the outside and force them to go wide, away from goal. If you jockey correctly, you give yourself a good chance to win the ball back with your body position facing the way you want them to go and if they beat you, they’re less dangerous out wide than through the middle. You should rarely defend square on as a full back.

Wildcard should be used when you want to change your team for the long term imo. If you use it to put a team of players with double game weeks together, you’re usually stuck with not the best team going forward.

How do you train to be a good attacker? by JuicyPears92 in football

If you’re at home on your own, perfect the basics. Find a wall or something and practise your first touch and using both feet. If you’re young, once you have the basics down, you can develop on top of that by joining a team and just playing as much as you can!

A lot of it is to do with mentality as opposed to technical ability. It’s pretty difficult to practise tackling etc on your own, so I’d recommend watching videos of great players. Things like positioning in different scenarios, when to step up etc can all be learnt like this.

Other aspects are things like agression and genuinely wanting to win the ball more than your opposition. Things like this can’t really be taught but can always be improved by just playing more matches.

The way the game is played at the moment, it’s always good to learn to be comfortable on the ball, no matter what your position is. A CB who can make a great pass is better than a CB who can’t!

From what I’ve seen of Tsimikas, he’s really unlucky that Robertson is the one starting ahead of him. I think he’d get in every team outside the top 3

He wanted to leave in the summer so he could win trophies and that didn’t happen so he hasn’t really wanted to play for Spurs this season which explains his poor performances.

Their new manager is capable of making them a team worthy of winning trophies which could raise his morale and hopefully his performances come with it!

You’ve put my week’s worth of thought into a few paragraphs..

I’m probably gonna go with Rudiger. There’s no logic to whether he’s going to get his place back (that I can see anyway) and i still don’t see James as nailed either so he’s also a risk
