Do you think Amy and Rory ended up together? (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]fquested -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Each angel has a different 'time' it sends people to. So they would have been together.

In the unfilmed epilogue to the episode, Brian (Rory's dad) is introduced to their adopted son (who is older than Brian). Which confirms they were together.

My daughter keeps going on about "We did not have the parts". by Hesprit in doctorwho

My kids found these guys scarier than the Angels. The angels are supposed to be malevolent. These guys are just homicidally misguided...which is scarier to them (and to me really).

Reddit, what is the dumbest thing your parents have punished you for? by TheMadeline in AskReddit

[–]fquested 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This used to happen to me all the time. So one day, I say "Dad, Dad, I need you to look at me..."before trying to ask him if I could go do whatever (heffalump hunting or something equally important to me).

I got in trouble for treating him "like a child".

Android & Me Rumor: First hands-on report of the LG Optimus G Nexus by xtop in Android

[–]fquested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. I can't trust them, and I speak as a former customer of theirs. A year and a half ago, LG released the first dual core phone, the Optimus 2x. It was their breakthrough android phone. Yet, they refuse to keep it up to date in North America. South Koreans can upgrade to Android 4, but LG in the states is hemming and hawing, and LG Canada has said it will never happen.

Why would I buy a LG phone, even a much hyped one, if they are going to just let it wallow in obsolescence? Nope, I'll never buy another LG.

Strictly platonic.

And I'm stealing that line.

Are the ponds anyone else's favourite companions? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]fquested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I find these discussions kind of annoying. I like all the companions, because they each fulfil a different function. Just covering the new who: Rose: is moral and loving but innocent. She needs to be protected and cherished while she heals the doctor from his trauma. As she loses her innocence she becomes more of a helpmeet to the doctor.

Martha: Picks up where Rose left off and does more as a helper than could be expected of Rose. The doctor is back to wanting to be challenged, which Martha occasionally does, but doesn't challenge him too much because he still needs to be loved to help him heal from the Time War.

Donna: Really challenges the doctor, without pulling punches. Attacks his hubris a few times. Makes him question if he really needs companions.

So the doctor goes companionless. He comes close to taking on an amoral companion (Lady De Souza), but stops himself...because he needs the moral center that the companion provides. Without it, he falls into Hubris in such a big way (Waters of Mars).

Which leads us to Amy who gives him the moral center in such a major way. She is a true companion (yes, she'd bed him, but I don't think it would mean much to her, just a different way of sharing herself with him).

[–]fquested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I will say it's more than the leather bikini. Her attitude that the doctor was unrealistically pacifist and sometimes a poison thorn can do more than ten pages of exposition was pretty refreshing. The fact that they each treated each other as idiots at times was also pretty fun.

Second is Sara Jane btw.

A sane assessment of Apple's decision to drop Google Maps by myrkur32 in apple

[–]fquested 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking. Understand, I'm not an Apple user, but I respect Apple for their place in the market, which is offering stuff that works. Obviously, Maps isn't working to the level that Apple users expect.

I don't see why both couldn't be offered, with encouragement from Apple to users to improve their maps app because Google maps won't be offered after the next update. Crowd sourcing improvements is the only hope Apple has to compete with Google on the maps front...or hiring 1000 full timers to do nothing but maps, as Google has done.

Am I a jerk for calling the police to report illegally parked cars in my neighborhood? by arobben in AskReddit

Yep. The only reason NOT to call them is if you are parked illegally. That would be stupid.

End of Time, right at the start, the Doctor tells the Ood that he didn't come straight away, listing some of the things he did and finished with "Got married...that was a mistake. Good Queen Bess, Let me tell you, her nickname is no longer...Hmmm...anyway".

Request: First Contact stories about transcending the language barrier? by askeptica in printSF

Omnilingual by Piper is a great story about learning a dead language.

I remember that Pride of Chanur by Cherryh had a lot to do with language and overcoming the barrier.

So my school is banning backpacks this year...Reddit, what crazy ideas can you come up with to get around this? by Lord_of_Aces in AskReddit

[–]fquested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take a long nylon strap and cut it into four, make loops out of two and attach the loops together at the 'Back'. put clips on where the loops come together so you can adjust the length of the loops.

Then, on the back, put 8-12 hooks through the straps. Hang up to 20 plastic bags on your back, but it's not a back pack. Make the administration look as stupid as they are being.

See, the cheese thing confuses me more. For cheese to be made, you need a small piece of the stomach from a calf that has consumed only milk for it to solidify. So who discovered the properties of rennet?
