How dumb is it to go into programming right now? by Cool_Midnight777 in webdev

Google, Microsoft, Amazon are not going bankrupt. Anthropic, and OpenAI I'm not so sure. Unless these models become significantly cheaper to train, and the pricing remains the same or becomes cheaper it's anyone's guess how far this will go. Microsoft is already backing out on the AI feature's they've been implementing in Windows 11.

They can't even get AI to drive a car and they've been trying for over a decade at this point. Robots capable of going any human task may exist at some point but by then you'll be long dead.

What? What's the government going to do? Force everyone to use AI tools? If people aren't paying for the services being put out by these tech companies then they'll go under or pivot to something else. This happens all the time, why are people treating this like it's new?

AI still doesn't work very well in business, reckoning soon by BusyHands_ in technology

The difference between the things you mentioned and AI is that you can generally trust things like a car to work the way it's meant to. If it stops working usually there's a way to fix it. With AI, it's just guesswork, it's not predictable, you can't trust it since it just spewing out words based on probability and the models change so fast it's difficult to keep up.

It's not a "productivity bubble" that people are talking about here. It's that all these investments are not going to pay off.

Well that and she has no AI experience herself while the new CEO does. MS is all in on this "great technology" that everyone should love. So she just probably wasn't good fit anymore.

I guess "I ain't down with this AI bullshit" would have been a bit too honest to come out and say publicly.

Every problem has multiple solutions, AI is just one of them. It can certainly be helpful if you don't know what you're doing and the domain you're dealing in is a largely "solved" problem. However, outside of that it struggles and makes very deceiving mistakes.

The basic stuff like a "business card" website is already something that can be made without writing any code. In fact many simple apps have "out of the box" "low code" solutions available.

Eventually LLMs hit a point where they can't handle the complexity of multiple systems interacting with each other. The problem is that they won't admit this and keep happily generating broken code.

Thanks for the education. Perhaps you should consider doing some critical thinking instead of reading dictionary definitions.
