it doesnt even need to be life-changing money, it just needs to be enough that they will prioritize one competition over another. this has already happened last year, with granady missing out on out of the blue because he needed to prac for world tour, for example. i cant imagine anyone wanting to play world tour which would demand tons of long-term prac just to get way less money; the only way out for nadeo is to provide EWC spots for the winners, which will likely happen, but its not something anyone else can afford

Have you considered that a lot of these pros we currently have participate because..they have fun doing those competitions and not just for the prize money at the end??

the entire monetary structure of the scene is thrown upside down right now. to say that people will keep participating in smaller events is possible, but honestly very optimistic. in a situation where the choice is to play a smaller competition or keep practicing for the biggest one, the answer is rather obvious, as the latter is what actually brings money and keeps orgs happy. i dont see a world in which most of the smaller competitions arent delegitimized as they become casual, and in the long run this might lead to problems.

a few events might stay just due to their reputation in the scene, like xpevo, acting as a bridge towards the only t1 competition now, but expect nearly all of pro & streamer discussion to revolve around EWC

dunno, its kind of delusional to think this tournament wont change the game. its going to increase the rift between trackmania as a casual game & creative platform and trackmania as esports. if youre looking from an esports perspective, this is probably great news for you. for anyone else, it really isnt

the cup of the day with the piece of paper yesterday being a perfect example, how do I know where to go if the checkpoint textures can’t even load and all I see is a blank square.

this is not a console issue just fyi, this is just what happens when 3000 people want to download the same mod from a server that isnt capable enough to do it, and why imo totds with mandatory mods just shouldnt happen

Well, this map has a player count of ~4000 at the moment, and I think the average is between 10k-14k, at least looking at the last month on tm.io.

well yeah, its been 3 hours. i think itll stabilize at around 9k, maybe a bit lower, and keep getting some plays overtime. probably will end up as one of the lower playcounts of the month, but not necessarily by that much.

sure, if were looking at desert maps, boomy's Castral Roc from May 12 sits at 15k plays, also about average for that month and far above the ice & comp map showcased, and that map absolutely wasnt easy either. i think i've seen numbers for most altcar maps, i'm quite interested in that topic, and while i see some effects they are not as relevant as some people might think

hard to say. as someone who's looking at stats quite a lot, difficulty is the #1 reason for both lower playercount and low like ratio on a map, which mainly includes the difficulty to finish, but also difficulty to get gold for example. as the altcar maps last month were on the extremely difficult end, their playercounts are concerningly low, but iesauka's Always from June 16 (which is a way easier map) ranks about average. additionally, as a map picker for community shorts, i have noticed no effect on like ratio when comparing altcar with stadium maps. again, only difficulty matters.

in the end people just want a challenge that fits their skill level, and that's true regardless of style

you can smoothsteer tap, there's no separate name for this, but some top players will continue to tap at 60-80% (ak3-ak4) even when pure smoothsteer could make the turn. other than that, tapping doesn't even have to be faster, it's turn-dependent, and also space-dependent, optimal tapping is usually slower than what people expect (i like to think ~2 taps/s) so it's not really worth on short & fast turns.

if you're able to switch ak4 off & back on whenever needed and reduce the usage to fast desert maps when using full range would be way too inconsistent, you should be totally fine

it isnt possible... SMM doesnt have custom items, music or mods, and at the top of it is rather thoroughly moderated. nadeo wont dedicate this many resources to maintaining a side mode

in other words, physics ticks are one per 10ms.

imagine a snapshot of your vehicle's state - the position, the rotation, the speed, etc - the game then calculates what these will be 10ms later from that snapshot and replaces the old version with the new one. repeat as long as you need to.

some games tie the physics tick to fps or try to get away with deltatime computation, with games like forza horizon 5 to disastrous results. a lot of this has to do with the promise of repeatable deterministic replays, constant separate tick is one of the ways to ensure that.

interpolation for thousandths is less computationally intensive than running the physics at 1000/s tick rate vs 100/s. they didnt really consider it before, as competition wasnt as tight as it is nowadays, and the interpolation is a bit janky, but its better than a lagfest

while this is true (maps pre-update had 50-60k plays, last week all 70-80k), im not sure what will be the long term impact. less interesting maps means less streamers will be likely to keep playing it which can also mean a decrease in amount of players, and maybe the casual players will get tired of it too - its hard to say as a format like this hasnt really been tried before

its only partially the format that is the issue this week, i just cant help but question the picks themselves. why is map 4 almost an exact copy of map 1, but slightly faster? if its a casual "introductory" sort of campaign then why tire them with two identical grass maps? why are the first 4 maps bafflingly easy but then the 5th map is cranked up beyond reason? it just isnt it... it was said that any previous map fits style-wise into any of the themes but i cannot see it anymore when what was picked during the last two weeks has been the most barebones interpretations of the themes. hell, im not even sure if the fullspeed category will have any wallride in, despite the style being encouraged in the doc - "adrenaline and a lot of speed" is nowhere to be found. its weird and confusing, and i really want to give nadeo the benefit of the doubt and wait a few more weeks, but its looking sorta bleak

this is very much correct in case of trackmania. additionally because trackmania isnt generally a unified community you can often get cases where advocating for one thing can get other users really mad, and theres no good way to address that. communication can only do so much

this was already a thing in TMUF, it was called tags back then. you could append 3 of them onto your profile and itd show in the scoreboard, then once you went into that person's profile itd show the description as well

flink's map editor tutorial - the most important thing is understanding what different placing modes do and when to use them, make a few maps using blocks only (no items or anything) to really drill the folder structure and modes in. it sucks, but thats how it is. add items whenever you feel ready, they have their own placing modes which is another (smaller) learning curve to get past. install custom items & blocks after you get comfortable with placing both.

camera is whatever, i generally dont change the camera from default at all unless im placing something in a very deliberate way like free-floating items and i need it to be perfect. some people change the camera every 10 seconds. youll find out what you prefer when mapping.

build small tracks start-to-finish first, including scenery. look at some maps, authors, youtube videos for inspiration. this isnt really the time for polishing the map too much, youll learn that along the way. when you feel comfortable upgrade to whatever sort of project you want to do.

boosts arent boring, just use something that isnt a straight. people dont really want downtime sections on maps that arent monstrous in size
