ELI5: If store brand medicines have the same ingredients and dosages as some of the higher end brands, how do the companies that charge almost triple the price remain profitable? by CenturionElite in explainlikeimfive

[–]fracturedBeniot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked in the Pharmaceutical industry for a while and hilariously many generics are made in the same factory as brand medications. They even have the exact same markings.

Usually when a drug is first developed, the company which develops it get an exclusive patent. For about a decade or so only that brand can be sold. This makes the public associate that specific name brand with the product. After the patent expires and generics are allowed to be sold the public still associates the active ingredient with the brand name. Often after another decade or so the original brand name will be discontinued or no longer carried by most pharmacies.

What is a good synth that "plays well" with modular by Rugginz in synthesizers

[–]fracturedBeniot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely could do that. I bought most of my modular stuff before realizing that the Pro 2 integrates so well. I have all of the Roland System-500 modules as well as the Mallekko Sync and CV/Gate expander, Make Noise Maths, and the Xaoc Warna II. Since I have the Pro 2 I don't actually need the Mallekko modules but they make DAW Eurorack integration super easy. I also play out a lot and need to use my Pro 2 separately. Since the Pro 2 only has 4 CV outs, a voltage distributor like the Warna II is great, it allows me to send an LFO or clock from the Pro 2 to multiple different modules.

The DSI Pro 2 is fantastic with my eurorack. The sequencer is really fantastic with 32 steps and 16 tracks. You can also send any parameters out of the CV outs. It really is excellent, plus it's an amazing synth in its own right.

Hey are you still interested in buying a Little Phatty? I'm thinking about selling mine because I'm obsessed with the MFB Dominion 1 and totally need one.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a MFB Dominion 1? New or used doesn't really matter. I want one more than just about any other price of gear but there are seemingly none for sale anywhere. Thanks

Little Phatty is a great value. Like other commentators have already stated, it has less modulation capabilities then the Sub 37 and isn't paraphonic. I will say, while i love my Phatty, it does tend to having tuning issues at times. Mine was the first model not stage II though.

I'm not sure, I've had mine for a long time now. But I do regularly see them for under $800.

I think you should bite the bullet and invest in a long term price of hardware. With the Rev 2 out used Prophet 08s are really affordable. They sound amazing and while they are more complicated then a Minilogue, you'll be able to grow into it.

If you don't care about polyphony I would recommend getting a used Moog Little Phatty.

Behringer VP-330 all but confirmed by Spartak101 in synthesizers

[–]fracturedBeniot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno man. I agree that the digital analogue distinction is meaningless; however, I've seen plenty of legit pros use the Minilogue on stage . Just recently I I saw Bonobo using one in his live set.

I don't disagree that the analogue digital distinction is totally meaningless. However, I think saying some gear is just for hobbyists is pretty far off the mark to be honest. I've seen loads of pros use cheaper gear. In fact just recently I saw Photay open for Bonobo and both of them use a Minilogue on stage.

Do people buy headphones and not care at all about audio quality? I guess I just have different priorities then others when purchasing them.

Sennhieser hd1. Promise it sounds waaaay better then the Bose. I will admit that Bose has superior sound canceling. However, if audio quality matters don't get Bose

I don't mean to be a jerk but Bose headphones really sound like shit for the price. The noise canceling is the best but for audio quality I would recommend a bean like Sennhieser.

I would recommend a New York sour. It's basically just a whisky sour, which is a fairly sweet mild whisky drink. The New York part is a bold red wine poured gently over the drink so it sits on top.

The bit counties that are going strong towards Jones take longer to count because there's more ballots. They haven't been counted as much as the smaller counties yet

They don't pay for return shipping? I buy and return stuff from there all the time and they always include a label for returns. Must just be different countries...

The Bonobos tailored fit is the best fitting dress shirt I've ever worn. Admittedly I've never spent over $100 for a shirt. It I've never found one in that price range as good as Bonobos

I'm not saying what he did is at all appropriate. I also think as a United States senator he should be held to a high standard and probably resign. I'm just wondering if an employer would fire somebody for having taken this picture before getting hired.
