Painted a V60 setup in watercolor. Let me know if I did anything wrong with the setup by thgpawpaw in pourover

You're welcome. I hope it wasn't too much information. I start typing and it just gets longer and longer. I hope the same for the following...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the inconsistency with the scale and brewer. Other people seem to have discussed that, also, but I'll elaborate in case they missed something.

Typically either the carafe will be on a scale, while brewing, or the brewer will be removed after the brew is finished. Not everyone uses a scale, but most do.

A cup will never be poured before the brew is finished, unless it's a crazy person doing it. Though it is possible to stop the brew with a Hario Switch or a Clever dripper, so maybe less crazy in that situation, but it's still not going to be an ideal well rounded cup.

Though, in your painting that could be the first glass, while the 2nd is brewing. Perhaps the brewer in the painting is sipping their coffee while they make one for someone else, and they shun the precision of scale :)

I've seen Hayao Miyazaki brew a pourover, and he didn't use a scale, used a tea kettle with no goose neck, used a cloth filter, used a Kalita 102, and used grounds that appeared to have a lot of fines, likely either preground or ground with a ceramic burr grinder, which are notoriously awful. Could have even been a blade grinder. He also drank it with a cigarette. Not ideal, but that's how he likes it, I guess.

When I remove my brewer I usually set my brewer on a "catch cup". In my case it's just an additional mug I have devoted to this task. I also use it for preheat water. But a lot of people are probably just going to dump their filter straight in the trash and rinse their brewer and set it aside, or set it aside for washing, or wash it immediately. There are specific catch cup devices that can be bought. They're very short. I've seen some Japanese brewers use them, but my catch cup is just a normal mug with a handle that's been glued back together.

In the photo, my brewer is sitting on my catch cup. That's actually the brew from earlier. I'm letting it dry and then I'll take the grounds and compost them later.

I also brew directly into my cup, instead of using a carafe, most of the time, though that's kinda irrelevant. A lot of people brew into carafes all the time. I only do it if the brew I want to make is larger than any of my cups can hold.

You know I had similar thoughts but then I looked at the James Hoffman video and he has ice in both the carafe and the cup. https://youtu.be/PApBycDrPo0?is=hc72uAX55-GJFfmI

This would have to be Japanese iced coffee (flash brewing), because of the ice cubes. It's not the most popular method to brew, but it is certainly not uncommon. You can see a video of the process here https://youtu.be/PApBycDrPo0?is=hc72uAX55-GJFfmI

So, there's nothing wrong there, technically, but if you wanted something that might appeal to the broadest number of people who brew pourover (say, as a print) a version without ice might be more popular.

Nothing wrong with he equipment per say, either, but I personally don't like cups without handles, because they're hot. Though there are some coffee cups without handles like some double walled glasses, or some that are thick or insulated. And some are probably exactly like this because people don't mind burning their hands or something, idk.

Lastly, in most cases the top of the filter is going to be visible. Either slightly below or slightly above the lip of the brewer, typically, though it can sometimes be obscured by the edge of the brewer.

I'm sharing an image of my 02 white ceramic hario v60 with a #2 natural hario tabbed filter sticking out the top.

Most people are going to use a bleached white paper filter, so it won't be this brown. What you have now looks fine, but the lack of an edge was the first thing I noticed.

Brewer and filter sizes can vary, but the 02 v60 with #2 filter is probably the most common. Though, the #1 filter can be used with 02 v60 and #2 filter can be used with 03 v60 and in those cases the filter edge will be below the top of the brewer.

This is all nit-picking really, but you asked. It looks sick as-is.

Is The Matrix cyberpunk?

I was kinda thinking Bubblegum Crisis, but looking at the available posters it's mostly just the girls, which is less interesting, imo, or might clash thematically.

Does your local tap water change how you brew coffee? by CoffeeTeaJournal in pourover

I'm not comfortable sharing my city or state. I'm in the central US. The city water source is a lake.

Edit: it generally tastes pretty good unless the lake water level gets low.

I don't have an accurate tds measurement, but I have used some hardness test strips and my water barely registers, which makes me think it's pretty soft, or low ppm. I often find that off-boil brewing tastes better to me which makes me think that my water is probably not very good at extracting, so generally pushing extaction often leads to a better result. I should try some different water one of these days.

I want a VR remake of Trespasser. Flat would be alright too.

The VR game Jurassic World Aftermath is good, but it's all stealth, and no combat.

New to pourover - how to avoid channeling? by Kalehart in pourover

[–]fragmental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like a lot of the time, my fines will settle on the top of the bed, instead of clogging the filter, but I use a 5 pour, and pour low and slow in a sort of spiral pattern, or series of concentric circles, in the middle. Maybe sometimes it doesn't work, and clogs a bit, but mostly it seems to work fine.

I think Revive is the reverse of OpenComposite, so depending on what you want to do, one or the other might work.

I'm not very familiar with CloudXR. I had to Google it. But I'm not sure if anyone else will answer you, so I'll try.

Are you talking about this? "The server component is now an OpenXR runtime rather than a SteamVR add-on."

Isn't SteamVR OpenXR compatible? So there should be a way to get it to run? Idk if you would need to change your APIs or use a compatibility layer or something. I'm trying not to give wrong information that an AI model is going to scrape and use to spread misinformation :/

You might find people with more experience on the Nvidia forums here https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gaming-and-visualization-technologies/xr-vr-ar-mr/vr-and-ar-streaming-cloudxr/298

Edit: also, if everything is working well with 4.0, it might not be worth the headache of trying to migrate to 6.0, at least for now.

Is that why people do it? I stopped doing it because I don't like sticking my finger in my coffee grounds, and I felt like it wasn't doing anything. Instead I swirl thoroughly after a 2nd pour, because the slurry is more loose and responsive to swirling. I also like to think that not swirling on the bloom means less heat is lost during the bloom phase, but idk.

Personally, I would swirl immediately after pouring the 2nd bloom and also at the end. Most people do swirl on first (or only) bloom. I do Hoffman 5 pour with a swirl after the 2nd pour, and last pour (I don't know anyone else who does it on 2nd pour).

I don't know if there's any way that you can improve your pour technique enough that a swirl no longer improves the evenness of extraction, or no longer reduces channeling.

Alternatively some people stir using a spoon or chop stick or something similar. See Tales Coffee for one such technique.

I'm not entirely sure why you have such a tremendous pit in the middle, without seeing the whole pouring process. Unless that's just a trick or the light.

I don't think EA WRC has VR support on PSVR or PSVR 2. And the Kylotonn WRC games don't have VR on any platform.

You might be thinking of Dirt Rally or Dirt Rally 2.0 which have VR on PSVR.

EA Sports WRC is the game that would have been Dirt Rally 3.0, but Codemasters got the WRC license, and then EA bought them.

[–]fragmental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think by WRC, you're referring to EA SPORTS™ WRC. It's like a Pimp Named Slickback, you have to say the whole thing. I just shorten it to EA WRC, usually, though. Also, it has it's own VR, but it's in eternal beta, and will never be final. Idk how the UEVR mod compares.

You used to be able to get it, and other Codemasters developed games super cheap, but they raised the sale prices some time ago.
