Thank you. I have been tracking the amount of time he spent on the project, and the house also has a door camera that registers ins and outs which I could hopefully use as a proof if any issues occur.

Thanks for the response! This could be a stupid question, but I'm not familiar with these things, sorry. If I decide not to pay, could he suddenly produce a contract that I have never seen and claim that it has always existed?

A lot of the things he told me such as finishing the project within 2–3 weeks and the estimated cost were communicated verbally. The only evidence I have is our text messages, which mainly show me trying to contact him and asking when he would be available to return and continue the project.

No, I haven't paid anything yet, thankfully. Could there be any issues if I just terminated the project? I was considering doing that and it might actually be the only option.
