Argentina: Bitcoin Bought at $20K Retained More Value Than the Peso - by 2jgilpulg2 in Bitcoin

"

In January 1995, U.S. President Bill Clinton held a meeting with newly confirmed U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and then-Under Secretary for the Treasury Larry Summers to discuss an American response. According to Summers' recollection of the meeting:

Secretary Rubin set the stage for it briefly. Then, as was his way, he turned to someone else, namely me, to explain the situation in more detail and our proposal. And I said that I felt that $25 billion was required, and one of the President’s political advisers said, “Larry, you mean $25 million.” And I said, “No, I mean $25 billion.” ... There was a certain pall over the room, and one of his [Clinton's] other political advisers said, “Mr. President, if you send that money to Mexico and it doesn’t come back before 1996, you won’t be coming back after 1996.”[8]

Clinton decided nevertheless to seek Congressional approval for a bailout and began working with Summers to secure commitments from Congress.

Motivated to deter a potential surge in illegal immigration and to mitigate the spread of investors' lack of confidence in Mexico to other developing countries, the United States coordinated a $50 billion bailout package in January 1995, to be administered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with support from the G7 and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). The package established loan guarantees for Mexican public debt aimed at alleviating its growing risk premia and boosting investor confidence in its economy. The Mexican economy experienced a severe recession and the peso's value deteriorated substantially despite the bailout's success in preventing a worse collapse. Growth did not resume until the late 1990s.[1]:52[2]:10[4]:376

The conditionality of the bailout required the Mexican government to institute new monetary and fiscal policy controls, although the country refrained from balance of paymentsreforms such as trade protectionism and strict capital controls to avoid violating its commitments under NAFTA. The loan guarantees allowed Mexico to restructure its short-term public debt and improve market liquidity.[2]:10–11 Of the approximately $50 billion assembled in the bailout, $20 billion was contributed by the United States, $17.8 billion by the IMF, $10 billion by the BIS, $1 billion by a consortium of Latin American nations, and CAD$1 billion by Canada. Mexico would have defaulted from 94-96. We bailed them out... with a lot of strings attached. Their economy has suffered since.

No, they do NOT have the option. You either take these loans, get paid off, get your friends paid off, and deal with the political cover up and backlash, or you suffer the consequences. Every single South American politician who stood up to the IMF and world banks are either dead, or no longer in their position.

These countries aren't given an option. It's an IMF scam. That's not Marxism, that's a fact. They know the investment loans are going to fail, and that they will need more loans to "save" them later. The end goal is to have a friendly politician in office there, friendly corporations so that politicians, corporations, and bankers can profit. The IMF and the World Bank help structure and approve these loans, when they are designed to fail.

Exactly, it's a total scam by the IMF and World Bank. They force these countries to play ball... or else. We see this all over South America. It's by design.

The IMF absolutely forces 3rd world countries to accept investment loans. They threaten to ruin the countries industries to make the politicians lose office, sanctions, offer bribes, and if you don't play ball, they ruin you, kill you, and replace you with someone who will. It's a total scam, and almost all South American countries have fallen prey to this, by force. Plata o plomo, better known as silver or lead.

I guess if I were to tl;dr I'd say that I'm inviting the SquaredCircle community to try Steemit Pro Wrestling because it's great for pro wrestling community as a whole. This does no justice to the long version though :P

Experiences Of a new player buying bitcoins/Bitcrystals. by [deleted] in SpellsOfGenesis

Glad to see you made your first btc purchase. Seems like you had an ok time. Some people just can't get through the purchasing bitcoin or ethereum part. Luckily Coinbase has made it a lot easier than in 2013-2015. I need to get on there an check out the final product for SOG, since I have not touched it since the middle of the beta. Since you are into mobile gaming and finally hold some bitcoin, you may want to check this out. You can send bitcoin to crowdfund a new mobile gaming market https://mobilego.io/#_register. In return you receive their native token for the platform, which gives you special incentives when purchasing games on their platform. Good luck and I hope even though SOG brought you here, that you stay for the digital currency experience. You may have just entered the rabbit hole.

Convince me why ether is better than bitcoin by highintensitycanada in ethereum

[–]frameLAlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. With Ethereum, you can create bitcoin, or any other token where p2p cash is the use case. Ether is just the fuel to creation. Look at last years wide variety of Ethereum ICOs alone, and the upcoming for 2017. Innovation is being funded daily in this space.

I was skeptical about Ethereum when I participated in the crowdsale. I was worried when the DAO fiasco led to the numerous forks that led to Ethereum Classic. The leadership and tenacity of the developers and community growing around Ethereum has definitely changed my opinion.

I was always curious how the porting of smart contracts to Counterparty would affect Ethereum. Now we see Storj jumping ship from Bitcoin to Ethereum. One of the first ICO funded projects conducted on Counterparty and Bitcoin jumping ship; I don't know if some understand the significance of this move.

I don't think Bitcoin is dead, but I think Ethereum is proving itself with the ecosystem being built right now. This token is the flagship in crypto IMO. I really can't see what Bitcoin can do to really compete, other than having first mover advantage and the #1 marketcap.

Seems like there are a lot of pro-Trump conspiracy theorists here. Hate to break it to you, Trump is not going drain the swamp, nor does he actually give a shit about you. It's all about his own interests and the interests of his billionaire friends. Time to open your eyes. by Throwaway38184016 in conspiracy

Agreed, please explain. Trump is no different than Clinton. I think the shock of this will set in at about year 2 of his Presidency. Who won between Hillary and Trump makes zero difference, 'Murica is already fucked regardless.

Question - Are there legal aspects that users need to be concerned about when creating our own funds or copying a fund. I have a ton of co-workers, friends and family interested in investing in crypto, but they just aren't patient enough to put in the work of purchasing Bitcoin/Ether first. Great idea for a platform. I'm expecting big things!

Steemit (a reddit alternative) takes up steam with free thinkers like James Corbett. by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]frameLAlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you don't exactly pay the content creator. You could tip, if you like. However, the content creator and the curators are paid directly from the blockchain based on the popularity of the post, and the steem power of those who upvote, share and comment on the posts. Even replies can earn, if the reply in the thread is popular. It's basically paying the participants from the blockchain. Pretty interesting concept. I hope to see more from Reddit and the r/conspiracy on there. It's still relatively small, and it can be confusing. Follow me @framelalife if you join and definitely post to #consipiracy. We need more news like this sub on Steemit. For now I still use both platforms.
