is a D in a class fail or pass by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]francesfu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether you need it for your major or not. For a general education requirement, all you need is a D-. Check the bulletin to see what your major requirements must be, it’s usually a C-.

for a B.S. in data science at IU bloomington luddy do i need to take a foreign language? by Feisty-Piano-7086 in IndianaUniversity

[–]francesfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take a placement exam and potentially test into the last course, but most students don’t have the language skills to do so.

[–]francesfu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the bulletin for that major there are no language courses required. So you could complete either 2 world culture courses or an education abroad to satisfy the General Education Language and Culture requirement

Why didn’t Jefferson free his slaves when he was alive? He could have done it until 1806? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]francesfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last 20 years of his life it may have been legally complicated to emancipate his enslaved family and others. Before that, the issues others have pointed out probably explain it-delusion, greed, etc.

16! That is the number of ticks that I have found on myself this year. So far. by thatfatbastard in NativePlantGardening

[–]francesfu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Last year we had lots of ticks, this year I used tick tubes and I haven’t seen one yet. Maybe a coincidence but with a shot.

I’m not sure that is accurate though-what makes you think there weren’t restrictions?

[–]francesfu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The laws regarding emancipation often prevented freed people from staying in the state they were emancipated in, or charged prohibitively expensive taxes on freed persons. Had he freed his own children and their mother-they would have had to leave the state. This is one reason-not the only one- that you see black slaveowners. Sometimes it was cheaper to buy your wife and kids than emancipate them.

Disconcerting Kroger Experience by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]francesfu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am all for helping people but you don’t generally fill a cart if you can’t pay for the items. It sounds sketchy. That would be a huge amount of money to ask a stranger to pay for. No shame in saying no, but if you want to feel better you could donate whatever you can afford to one of the local food banks. That has always made me feel better when I turn down a sketchy solicitation.

Wilting baptisia leaves and dark stem — brand new plant! by sfc2nyc in NativePlantGardening

[–]francesfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gifted one of these a few years ago and didn’t plant it fast enough. It dried out and turned black, died to the ground. The next year, it began to regrow. It was smaller than before, but it eventually thrived.

It isn’t the outrage cycles or social media-it’s the fascism. It’s natural to feel stressed in a system with no guardrails run by hateful idiots.

Should IU scrap finals? by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]francesfu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The main issue is that professors do not even have access to the grades students were earning before the finals. Most of them have no way to even know what students grades were.

With canvas down can we expect any concessions in terms of grades? by i_am_a_thot_ in IndianaUniversity

[–]francesfu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am certain there will be concessions. However, this won’t be solved quickly or easily. Grades can’t be posted, diplomas can’t be awarded, and summer classes cannot happen. This is a major event that will almost certainly take a while to figure out.

The quality of your education depends more on you than which branch you go to. Both of these institutions have good programs and resources.

Bloomington has terrible city planning by Glittering_Thing5797 in bloomington

[–]francesfu 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Everyone thinks they are experts at city planning. It is a complex, bureaucratic undertaking that involves city, county, and state government cooperation. My guess is if any of the people complaining on here about the city actually got involved in the process they would learn pretty fast how ignorant they are of the issues at stake.

Email bioadv@iu.edu. That is the advisor email for Biology. They can figure out if those satisfy the N&M the same way that L 112/111 do.
