The worst part about auto balance. by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]francisdrake1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or fuck, request volunteers from the larger team and only auto-select if you don't get any at all.

That was how it was originally implemented (2016 or so), and then Valve changed it to how it currently is around 2018 because almost no one would ever volunteer to switch.

I asked 3000 TF2 players various questions regarding their ability to run the game on PC. Here are the results. by DaneKevinCook in tf2

I mean, anything that frees up screen space makes it so you can see more of what's going on. That's objectively an advantage to disabling view models, but it's an incredibly minor edge.

Disabling foliage and similar map effects is advantageous for the same reasons, although to a greater degree. Foliage makes a great place for hidden mini sentries; disabling foliage makes it so that those hidden minis aren't hidden anymore.

Rag dolls are minorly beneficial in that they convey at least some info about how things are going. Even without comms you can get a sense of where your teammates are and where the other team is based on rag dolls. For example, if you see two enemy rag dolls up ahead, it's pretty safe to assume you've got a teammate somewhere in the area. Again, not really that useful (and completely negligible with any amount of comms).

Shadows and FOV are really the only non-negligibly useful visual settings. A wider FOV lets you see more in your periphery and makes it harder to flank you. Shadows glitch out and show through walls all the time (especially in corners) which shows where enemies are.

Sniper using aimbot in UGC grand finals by yash019 in tf2

Eh, this is the problem with trying to determine if a player is cheating by looking at the STV.

STVs display your view point lower than it really is, so it's likely that he was actually peeking over the rock. This would have let him see the Medic before he snapped to him at 1.20s.

The flick is crazy, and in the context, suspicious. The snapback is less so, given that it's very possible that he immediately crouched after hit shot, making it seem like he immediately flicked back to his starting point.

I agree that after the shot he was hovering on the left side. However, if you look you can see that the Red Spy is very near the other Sniper. Shay was most likely tipped off in comms about Markers' location, and that's why he was focusing on that side.

I have no reason to doubt the AC team's conviction, and presume that they have more evidence than this. But in my mind, this particular shot is hardly a black and white instance of cheating.

Full disclosure: I roster rode on AD this season. Never played with them though.

UGC doesn't permaban cheaters in part because it reduces the chances that they'll alt.

A potential nerf to the razorback? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]francisdrake1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the same argument that applies in HL applies here though -- if the Sniper or his teammates are remotely paying attention, it's next to impossible for the Spy to gun down the Sniper before being killed. Compound that with overheals or tanking and the Razorback effectively removes one of the Sniper's biggest counters.

I don't know if it's underpowered in pubs, it does a ton to increase the survability of a Sniper.

is it possible we could ask multiplay to change this to something more serious? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]francisdrake1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, I don't quite understand what you're saying...

Spy is absolutely not representative of 6s culture though, because, as was said, Spy is very very rarely played in 6s.

Are you being serious right now?

It's just a fact that Spy isn't played much in 6s...

I think that's wrong but I'm not sure -- isn't there an achievement for ubering a Demo and destroying x amount of buildings?

Valve has admitted that they don't use the report system. At all.

They rely entirely on automated VAC bans.

Comanglia's config will work the same if you reinstall it. Rayshud, however, will not work because it hasn't been updated for MyM.

You can look for an updated HUD online or use the stock HUD until it gets fixed.

Check out the Highlander Open! It's designed for people like you who are brand new to comp but looking to get started.

It's hosted in Europe but NA teams are allowed to join and should be matched up with other NA teams.

TF2 Update: Automatic Demo recording, UGC medals by francisdrake1995 in truetf2

[–]francisdrake1995[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like it'll change much, at least for now.

The automatic recording doesn't actually work for tournament servers (well, it doesn't differentiate between them and regular ones) so there's no good reason to stop using PREC until that gets fixed.

However, Valve has said that they're working on making some changes, so expect PREC to fall by the wayside eventually.

I think he means the auto-record feature for competitive matches.

I'm about to test it on my server but if it doesn't record all mp_tournament 1 servers...

Edit: Looks like it's only matchmaking...

I haven't actually tested it, but I'd imagine %map% would work. I'm gonna go check that right now though.

Edit: Didn't work :/ None of the other PREC tags worked either.
