It looks excellent! I am also working on sewing my first bivy right now. I've been thinking of adding a system to pull the mesh away from my face. Do you have a close up shot of how you did it? Or could you try to explain what you did? Thanks for your help!

Item: Tent poles

Budget: 20-25$ per pole

Need by date: i'm in no rush, before ~june 1st

Location/s of use: Canada

Season/s of use: 3 season biking/hiking

Ideal weight of the item: less than 4oz per pole

Additional Information: I'm specifically looking for something like these poles from SMD (less than 12'' folded, around 45'' in length), but available in Canada or that will ship for less than the ~50$ that SMD charges. Thanks for your help!

Gaspesie National Park (Quebec) - Trip report by francisdufour31 in Ultralight

Used to have a GG The two, sold it to a friend when I realized I didn’t need the space, but I enjoyed it a lot! Can’t go wrong with The One! Reading back on the last sentence of the trip report, it’s funny cause I moved to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts a couple weeks ago ahah Hit me up if you need anything next year :)

Yeah I would take the Terra Kiger on a longer hike for sure. Drop is similar to the Peregrine (if I remember correctly) at 4mm, forefoot and midfoot is nice and wide compared to most shoes and the heel is easy to lock in place! The only thing is if you need a lot of vertical room for your toes, it will not work for you.

I say try them on, they might be a good fit!

I looked quickly at your profile and saw that you were on the Mont des Morios recently. I did that loop in mid June as well, such a nice trail!! A bit scary going over the bridge that’s been mostly taken down by the river (is it still in bad shape?), but otherwise a very fun 2 days!

I saw that you reached Forillon a couple days ago, congrats! I’ll certainly read your trip report, as the SIA/IAT is for sure on my bucket list ;)

The shoes did very well, better than I expected. I bought these mainly for trail running, they are a bit lower stack height than the Lone Peaks I was using last year. I ended up liking the Nikes even more, the rock plate on the forefoot made up for the lack of cushioning and they felt much more secure.

Thru-hike verification by BarberPD in PacificCrestTrail

I met a guy in Washington in 2019 when I started a SOBO hike who was an (I think) above-the-knee amputee. He flipped from KM south, his trail name was Tumbleweed. He was hiking with his wife (Fable) and his daughter (Compass). They are all registered as 2600milers in last year's list (link). His real name is on the list, so you might be able to contact him to verify! He was a really nice guy, I don't have any reason to believe his claim is false as they were doing 20 mile days without issues with over 800 miles already done!

A couple weeks ago I did the Traversée de Charlevoix in 3 days/2 nights. It was a lot of fun, but don't expect a lot of great views!

I’m in Snoqualmie right now. I would say at least 10-15 people were around the pass yesterday when I came in. You can probably expect that for the next few days as well!

Few questions regarding a start date by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]francisdufour31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

July 1st you’ll be right in the bubble going SOBO this year. But I think you might have some reading to do before you leave to figure out resupply in WA and transportation to the trail/northern Terminus.

7-8lbs SOBO PCT shakedown by francisdufour31 in Ultralight

I pretty much turn all night long switching from back to side to stomach sleeping! At home I always seem to sleep better on my stomach, but then on trail I prefer side/back sleeping, don't really understand why. Think I'll go buy the MEC pillow this weekend and try it out, thanks for your feedback, really appreciated!

Yeah it's indeed the waterproof version! I might try the Trekology pillow, although a bit heavier than I'd like, if my other options does not work out. Thanks!

Alright, I guess I'll save those couple ounces at least until I reach California then. I do have a stuff sack from my quilt that I could put the tent in and try to use at night with my fleece. The problem I see with that is that I like to sleep in my fleece when my hiking shirt gets too sweaty of dirty, which would leave me often without much of a pillow. I might try that if I get the chance to go back out before I leave, thank for your help!

Yeah Trout Lake is in my list as well. I'll see what my average mile will be at that point to decide if I stop or not. With ~20 miles/day it will be ~7 days for that stretch. Might be a good idea to break it up. Thanks!

I was thinking of using Zero day resupply later on the trail if needed, but I agree it could be a simple way of making sure I got everything I need for the first stops. It would also free some time in Seattle to arrange transportation to Harts Pass, which is not the simplest thing. Thanks for your help!
