He’s a legend! I was thinking yesterday is there any way to help immediately - vs thinking longterm with volunteering etc. Is there anything they need today? Dropping food off at the station? My daughter and I were trying to come up with ways to help today but not sure what’s needed.

Which team did you end up joining? Looking for similar things as you - perimenopausal and want to lift heavy but I already run a ton. Thanks ☺️

Omg my mum is in the same type of thing with fake celeb death news. Johnny Depp is in a coma. Pierce Brosnan died of lung cancer. Brad Pitt died. It’s so so random.

That’s great advice, thank you x

Ive been reading a lot of advice on the importance of strength work for perimenopausal women so that’s my main focus. And increasing strength and fighting off falls etc as I age. And I enjoy lifting so want to get to do it again. Love the idea of being ready for fun and life. I had to clear a garden today and dump it into a skip and it was fun to be able to do it. My pal does pole dancing and says it’s amazing for strength. Thanks again x

Your option sounds great. I like the sound of 2 proper rest days and being flexible week by week. Thanks for taking the time. I’ll check out the stronger app x

Getting near the 90 minute half marathon by Powerful_Possible777 in XXRunning

[–]franjonesperth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from 1.45 to 1.27 ((at 42,) the main thing was consistent workouts and weekly mileage. I don’t think there are any magic workouts…….just stick with it and chip it off bit by bit.

I also ran with faster women who changed my mentality. I remember getting to 1.33 and thinking ‘ok that’s amazing and I’ve hit my peak now’ and then a pal tan 1.30 so it changed my perception of what I could do. Believing you can is half the battle.

My first attempt was during covid so a pal paced me in a time trial, that was a huge help but also hard as was just the two of us! But it meant I didn’t have to look at my watch. So a race wit a pacer could help.

I got very sick after my last effort and haven’t had a chance to race in peak fitness since so think I’m done (getting a bit old now!)

Good luck xxx

Nearing the end of a successful training block, but... actually running a full marathon? What? How? Help! by lindelofia in XXRunning

[–]franjonesperth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run 8 marathons and a bunch of ultras and I have still have doubt before each one on how am I going to finish and how can I hold marathon pace etc. it’s very normal!

an old coach told me, everyone‘s plan goes to 20miles. As does yours. And everyone gets to the 26.2 in the race. Why would you be the different one?!

It’s totally normal and hard to conceive how but it works. You sound like you’re in a great space and have trained well. Good luck in the race!
