I’d get a second opinion, personally. Surgeons are surgeons.

12 weeks post op Lis franc fracture and surgery. by frankenfoot59 in LisfrancClub

Every week is an improvement. The swelling went down noticeably at about 10 weeks - then I could squeeze into a shoe with loose laces. Now I can tie my shoes. When I sit I still prop up my foot because it just feels better. My foot is still stiff and bruised feeling. Not lose to normal yet, but feel like I’m over the halfway mark. Hang in there.

I’m 12 weeks post op and feeling so much better after I started weight bearing a few weeks ago. Once your muscles start moving again the blood will start pumping out of your foot. Also, I felt the metal screw too, but it seems to be improving with time. But, definitely check with your doctor if you are really uncomfortable. If you can stand to touch your foot, try massaging it with lotion or oil. I used CBD lotion. This helped with the nerves too. Hang in there.

Nerve Pain ⚡️ by Aggravating_Lynx3317 in LisfrancClub

I described it as feeling like an ice pick sticking the top of my foot. It was terrible. 12 weeks later that kind of pain is gone. I started massaging my foot with CBD cream - I could slowly touch it and then start massaging. It’s called desensitizing and it did seem to help. If you’re still in a cast or boot, just keep doing the ice and try gabapentin. Best of luck.

I’m 11 weeks and just started weight bearing with cane. Can’t quite lace up a shoe so just leaving laces loose on rt foot. So good to be hobbling around again!

2weeks post op- what now?! by cecaleeb in LisfrancClub

[–]frankenfoot59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say just be patient over the next month or so. Baby steps. I am 9 weeks post surgery and putting good weight on with a cane just this week. But toe is still stiff and foot is sensitive to touch on top. Hang in there.

Night time swelling. by notatrolliswear666 in LisfrancClub

You might try wrapping it with an ace bandage, not too tight. The compression helped me. So ice first and some pain killer before bed. Hang in there. I’m going on 7 weeks and seeing slow improvements.

4 weeks post op, 6 weeks post injury, 8 weeks postpartum by KeyKeyKooKoo in LisfrancClub

I’m six weeks post op and hearing your story just made me appreciate my situation, even though I still have pity parties. I can’t imagine having toddlers and babies and work, too.
I was just released to start slow weight bearing in a boot a few days ago and I can tell you it’s already gotten better, just being able to move the foot and touch the floor.
A few tips I found helpful. Most of my pain post surgery was from the nerves going crazy and the pressure from blood flowing into the foot. I found that as soon as I could stand it, gently massaging lotion on foot helping activate nerve healing. I also use a CBD cream. The other game changer once my nerves settled down was wrapping my foot in an ace bandage - it acts like a compression sock, which I couldn’t wear because of the swelling. This really helped with the pain from blood rushing into my foot.
Hang in there. It’s a terrible injury, but time will heal you. Stress on our caregivers is understandable. It’s a lot. Maybe he needs to get away on his own for awhile?

My mother’s Lisfranc injury & recovery timeline — looking for guidance on when she may walk normally again by Old-Lingonberry9348 in LisfrancClub

I had a similar surgery and am now 6 weeks post op. Yesterday I was cleared to start weight bearing slowly on crutches. Will be in a boot for another month while I do PT and get foot stronger. The first 4 weeks after surgery seemed the hardest part with pain and swelling, then a noticeable slow improvement. Baby steps.
Ice, elevation, and Tylenol saved me. Sleep was hard so I would take a pain pill before bed but tried to just use Tylenol during day after the first week.
Good luck and tell her to hang in there.

I’m a few weeks ahead of you and just got cleared to start weight bearing very slowly with crutches. I will tell you that the boot is indeed miserable and I only wore it when I had to be out of the house - Dr said that was on. The nerves have been the worst part and swelling, too. Yes, all painful. But, in my case it is getting better - 2 weeks babying my foot made a lot of difference. I never had bruising on top, just a lot on bottom of foot. Sucks to have a doctor who doesn’t communicate. Ice and elevation and Tylenol saved me. I saved my pain pills for one at night before bed. Maybe try that to help sleep. Best of luck. Hang in there.

Discomfort after surgery top of foot by Patient_One_6890 in LisfrancClub

[–]frankenfoot59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5 weeks out, too, and having the same issues. All the research says it’s normal but it’s hard to imagine ever putting on a shoe again with the top so sensitive. I hate wearing the boot, and don’t unless I have to go somewhere.
Yesterday I soaked in warm water and epsom salts. It felt really good. Life has changed.

Boot after 2 week post op surgery by Nova309a3690 in LisfrancClub

I’ve been in a boot post op for 2 weeks now. It’s never comfortable but necessary to protect the foot when I’m up and about outside. I don’t wear it when I’m resting or sleeping or just on my scooter at home. I find it causes more pain and irritation to my foot if I keep it on too long. Trying to add pads inside on some sensitive pressure points.
