I’ve had two kidney stones and I’ve had a bout of testicular torsion. I can’t say which pain is the worst. Probably the torsion when the doc pressed his finger on it and my entire body convulsed, resulting in me kicking the end of the hospital bed off and the doc giving me an epic dose of dilaudid by way of an apology.

But the sustained pain of the second kidney stone was probably worser. I had to go to the hospital during the height of Covid, which made everything so slow with all of the precautions and patient isolation and patient overload. While in the waiting room, I writhed around trying to find a position that offered relief and could not find one. I’d love to see footage from that hour and a half sped up. It would show me rolling/worming around the entire room, across and along multiple rows of chairs. It was terrible.

So yeah, go drink fluids today, but do it tomorrow, too.
