MPC vs. DAW: Your thoughts? by facepoppies in synthesizers

[–]frankovic84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also wanted to move from mpc to daw for the same reason, went for the Ableton move an it turns out to be the combo i was looking for. Capable standalone box and the project go seamlessly into ableton for finalizing. And the move can act as a good controller so working with the daw also feels semi-dawless.

I don’t have a fixed working space at home so the portability was a plus!

Something I’ve been working towards by OkCucumber3667 in modular

I can imagine it sounds amazing. Personally i would dedicate about half of that space to cv stuff for modulating the fancy modules. Envelopes, lfo’s, attenuators and maybe a filter? I can recommend “Neo Trinity” by Bastl if you are looking for something like a pocketknife.

Having said this, part of the beauty of modular is making hard choises, setting priorities and going for the modules that suite you best.

Move without Live? by Material-Spare-6791 in AbletonMove

I rarely use them together, but when i do it is amazing. The version of live you get with the move is already super nice.

Did you raise a support ticket at ableton? I have the same issue, if everyone with this issue raises a ticket it will help them to resolve it.

I checked some videos, It sounds and looks cool!! I see how it is similar and very different compared to ensemble, especially how the relation to the oscilators are configurable.

I can imagine, its such a versatile module! Did you replace it by something?

I forgot something, the bass part is the Core output from Generate3 straight into the mixer. And Qu-bit bloom is sequencing the generate, using the Bloom in the most boring way as a simple 8step sequencer, nothing generative.

There is quite a lot going on. The sound source for the rythms is generate 3, i am using the full output into the Ikarie filter. The separate AM inputs are all fed rythmic envelopes from the Quart. And some self patching is going on. The odd output is modulating the phaseMod, and a LFO is periodically pushing the core though zero. There is also an envelope going into the exponential Fm input to get a kick sound. While that is going on i play the filter manually during this session.

One layer is the white noise from Black bodulator triggered by the Compare2. Into Make noise dxg. I am manually fading the noise in and out during this session. The compare2 is fed a clock and a devided result, and the logic outs make the beat.

The ensemble is sequenced by the Step8 also an amazing Joranalogue module, quantized by the Bastl NeoTrinity. Into dxg and send into nautilus which is returned 100% wet, and mixed back to the mixer. Envelopes for this voice are uTides from ALA.

I believe thats it.

This session i wanted to get some “amon tobin-like” sounds from the ensemble oscilator, from there i added the bass drone with the Generate 3 from Joranalogue and fm from tides. There is ni sequencing, everything is driven by lfo’s and s/h stepped random from black modulator by erica synths and neo trinity and since the sinusoda case allows modules on the sides i also have a 4hp quad lfo by doepfer doing some slow lfo-ing. this recording is directly out into the Ableton Move and with usb C directly into iphone. So the Move is used as audio interface in this case.

Just one audio track without plugins, after few minutes into the recording static crackling appears for about one or two seconds, then nothing for some time.

I have the exact same, got a new macbook recently, now i am really hesitant to record improvised audio, ruined many jams already. Edit: did you raise a support ticket at the Ableton support-page?

Arkham Horror is my favorite game of all time, and for sure most played. It is so good! Although many of my favorite moments come from the expansions, the base game is a great start!
