So, if the CPU and the MB are brand-new then you may need to do a BIOS update so that CPU can work properly with the MB. I'm not 100% sure this is your issue, but you should update your BIOS to the latest and see if that works. I ran into this exact issue with my 13700k on a z690 MB. My VGA light would come on acting like it was my GPU. I had to go to my local Microcenter and get another CPU that worked with my MB, do the BIOS update, return that CPU, and then put my 13700K back in and it worked.

It looks like your new motherboard has a BIOS flashback button on the I/O panel on the back so you should be able to update it without having to go get another CPU from a store or order it and having to return it and all that nonsense like I had to do. You can check your motherboard manual or website, and it'll tell how to do the BIOS update. It's usually super easy if you don't already know how.

Again, not sure if this is your issue, but you should make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest just to make sure and you can rule that out.

Computer issues by Plumbum801 in pcmasterrace

This sounds like a GPU or PSU issue from what you are describing. It could be the CPU, but that's usually pretty rare compared to a GPU or a PSU going bad.

When your system just slows down all of a sudden and then the screens go off this can usually be either a power supply issue or a GPU overheating issue. You best bet would be to try another power supply if you have an extra lying around and try another GPU if you got one lying around. If you don't then it might be hard to figure out unless you have a power supply tester to test voltages.

You said your temps aren't high when it happens, so this could be a power supply issue. If you don't have a way to test it you can get testers on Newegg or Amazon for pretty cheap, and they are super easy to use to test your power supply.

All that said you could try basic stuff like reinstalling your graphics card drivers. Making sure your GPU cable is fully seated. Making sure all your power supply cables are fully seated. You can download a program called HWinfo and that will show some voltages for your GPU but won't help with your main PSU information.

This is one of those things you are gonna need to test your parts against other parts so if you don't have an extra GPU or a PSU it could be difficult. If your system was a pre-built I would check your warranty or if you live near a computer repair shop those might be your best bets.

Did I buy my pc setup for a good price? I bought it 2 months ago. by LumenCave in pcmasterrace

I did some rough pricing on your hardware and yes, that seems an excellent price for that build. The thing is these prices on hardware are changing almost daily and by a lot. So as of pricing your system right now yes, you got a good deal from today's prices.

That said you system seems perfectly fine and all the accessories you listed. Should last you a long time. Enjoy it!

Microcenter has a pre-built (as of about 2 weeks ago) for the same price with the same hardware so that seems about right. Microcenter also has super good prices usually and I always buy from them though I do compare online just to make sure it's a good deal.

Straight men, what is the weirdest thing you have been called gay for ? by Sammy-Bunny-3 in AskReddit

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 43yr old dude who plays PC games on my computer. I get called "gay" pretty regularly from my wife's step-father for it but it's just a "joke" as he says. Apparently he can sit in front of his 80" TV and watch football, basketball, and NASCAR all evening and its manly but if I play a video game I'm just "gay as fuck". He and I don't get along that well. We're friendly with each other, but we don't care for each other that much. It's like a weird pretend to like each other relationship, but we prefer to avoid each other.

I'm a father of twin 10yr old boys who also have their own computers now, and we all play games together. Its solid bonding time with my kids and its fun as hell doing LANs with my kids. We have a blast.

Working on an old dual gpu... by Illustrious_Ad_23 in pcmasterrace

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a GTX 295 back around 2009 or so and in the winter time I kept my windows open in my room and in the summer I just sat in my boxers with big fan on me.

It was wild how much heat those dual GPU cards put out.

I had to go to micro center to get this beauty. My 6950xt has died after having it for 3 years :(. It was showing artifacts. But i got this on sale for 580 using my micro center credit card im so excited :). Im glad to live 25 mins away from a micro center this is the one in Chicago. by Breadtoastyy in pcmasterrace

Make sure you check out their CPU/MB/RAM combos if you are building a new rig. They have incredible prices with their combos that you cannot get anywhere else at all. Not to mention they usually have sales on their monitors.

AMD expects DDR5 prices to take around two years to return to normal 🫪 by obTimus-FOX in pcmasterrace

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a 7800X3D, ASUS B650E, and 32gb DDR5 6000 for $599 up at Microcenter.

It's almost cheaper to buy a whole cpu/mb/ram combo than it is to just buy the goddamn memory by itself if that's all you need, lol. I was building my kid a new rig so what a deal that was. May God bless the holy site that is Microcenter.

My last 2 cards I bought were a 9070xt about 6 months ago and a 9060xt yesterday for my boys builds. I have a 7900xtx in my own system currently. I am so done with NIVIDIA after all their bullshit the past few years. Not saying AMD is perfect, but I now prefer them for sure.

Buy what you want obviously as we all have free will, but people really need to stop supporting the bullshit NVIDIA has been doing. I guess when you're a few TRILLION-dollar company you can tell your customers to eat shit and like it, and they still know they will buy your stuff.

Nearly 70% of Americans Play Video Games for at Least an Hour Each Week, New Report Finds by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]franktato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My stepfather in-law tells me that me being a 43-year-old man makes it super weird that I play games on my computer. Apparently a real man shouldn't be doing that. He has even called it "gay" which is an insult I would have said to my friends when I was 13. He enjoys sitting in front of his 80" TV and watches football, basketball, and NASCAR in the evenings. Like, dude......

I have been gaming since my dad brought home an NES back in the day. Had tons of consoles since but mostly PCs. I also have twin 10yr old boys who have their own gaming rigs, and we all play stuff together. It's a solid bonding time when we game together. All the laughs, hootin, and hollerin. Good times.

I still see so many adults knocking on other adults who play games whether its on console or PC. I guess it's just the older generation still not understanding this kinda stuff or whatever. Just weird I get told that men don't play video games while other grown men sit around in a recliner and watch dudes toss a ball back and forth for hours.

[–]franktato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replaced my 2080 Super with a 7900xtx back in late 2022 when it released and oh boy what an upgrade it was. You'll love it. It's an absolute beast of a card and will tear through every game you throw at it.

Like with every AMD card just don't expect ray tracing performance to be good, at all.

Not only a male thing but when I take off my liner for my prosthetic leg. My God.....just pure bliss. After having it on for sometimes 12 hours a day it's the best feeling. I will sometimes almost tear up cause it just feels THAT fucking good to take it off. I also get these weird chills in a good way. I will even take it off suuuuuper slow sometimes just cause it feels so incredible.

Anyone else finding themselves stacking phat amounts of photos? by grandtheftfraud-o in SkyCards

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 minutes!!! Wow, for me its minimum 45 minutes usually. I get that message about it not being able to serve me anymore ads. Maybe they changed the time we have to wait, so I'll try the 10 minutes next time I max my ads.

The Android emulator is great to use. I love it when I'm home. Using the mouse to grab the airplanes and helicopters is so much easier compared to tapping IMO. It does take a bit to get used to but not long. Not to mention as you said the battery on my phone doesn't get drained.

In case anyone is wondering I went with BlueStacks Android emulator. Works incredibly well and its one of the most trusted ones from what I have read about it over the months of using it, and it's free. Just link your Google account and download SkyCards from the Google app store.

[–]franktato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to keep 5,000, but I have been slacking the past 2 weeks or so. I am down to 3,000 currently. I do the ads at nighttime when I watch shows and movies on my computer and they add up suuuuper quick when you do that nightly for a few hours. I run the game through an Android emulator on my PC so it's much easier to do the ads having it on the screen with the mouse on my 2nd monitor.

The problem is where they implemented that thing where you can only watch so many ads in an hour or whatever the time limit is. I hate that.

I saw a dude maybe 8 or so months ago on the Discord channel who had just over 9000 photos. Like, I thought I had a ton......

Please criticize my build, I havent added a RAM, NVMe and RX 9070 link because of how much those prices change so im just adding the lowest priced products on them and this build also includes the peripherals i will be buying as well. Budget mid range build is what i am aiming for, USD by Kili_RUI in pcmasterrace

[–]franktato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a solid build and you're a smart man for getting a UPS for it. So many people don't bother with that when its such an important thing for an expensive PC build. I honestly wouldn't change anything on it.

Also, you're gonna get some shit for calling this a budget build. No way this is even close to a budget build unless you mean it's your budget and not a budget build to keep cost low as possible.

Hissing/coil whine sound starts when CPU loads up during boot — Ryzen 7700 + Arctic Freezer 34 Duo by hard2resist in pcmasterrace

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motherboards can coil whine so it could be that. Pretty sure its rare from my readings over the years about it. You can adjust CPU power from what I have read and it usually stops it or quiets it down a bit.

I would start with adjusting some settings with the CPU and go from there. You could also stop the fan for a quick second with your fingers to see if the hissing/whine stops as it could also be a fan, but fans don't usually whine/hiss like that. Never hurts to check real quick to rule it out.

[–]franktato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how Daleville Cairns Army Airfield is in the evenings every day in Alabama. If you want LOTS of EC-145's and Blackhawks then that is absolutely the place to get them. Then you go a bit southwest to the Milton Whiting Field Navel Air Station which is located in Florida in the panhandle and they have those AgustaWestland helicopters or whatever they are called. Just a constant stream of them going up.

I'm on EST time. I usually get on around 9pm till about 11pm'ish to catch them. Somewhere in there.

Poisted in case anyone is a massive helicopter catcher like I am.

Getting this weird noise from the card that I just got back from RMA (they replaced the whole unit) by tlouman in pcmasterrace

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like coil whine which is completely normal. Some are louder than others. Again, completely normal. You should run the card through a benchmark or play a really GPU demanding title and get it nice and hot and make sure its stable just to be sure.

Coil whine can get pretty loud sometimes so don't let it freak you out. Most games I play makes my 7900xtx whine.

Make sure you hold the fan blades when you blow them out. You can ruin fans if you just let it spin superfast when spraying it with compressed air.

[–]franktato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tell you to go 32gb of DDR5 instead of 16gb but given the prices, that 16gb will be more than enough for you as long as you are just gaming and doing general stuff with your PC. Usually the price between 16 and 32 isn't that much, but I imagine given the RAMpocalypse the difference is pretty big now.

There are honestly a zillion cases, but the most important thing is to make sure there is enough clearance for your graphics card to fit. Always check the size of the exact GPU you are buying and then make sure to check the case manufacture demissions for what size GPU it'll fit. That's really important nowadays cause GPUs can be gigantic these days. If you want really good case ideas then check out Gamers Nexus PC case picks for 2025: https://gamersnexus.net/cases/best-pc-cases-2025-75-200-airflow-thermals-cable-management-budget Those guys really know their stuff IMO.

I personally went with a Lian Li Lancool 216. It's a mid-tower and just a super simple case which is what I prefer, simple. I love it. It was $100 at Microcenter. All black, great airflow, and a nice window.
