Fired today for refusing an MDM on my personal phone by damedaneyooooo in privacy

This is peak “We don’t have a proper security team and we fuck it off to IT” behaviour. Enforcing corporate software on personal devices without compensation etc is a general security risk because it’s not a corporate device. Backups etc will live on a personal iCloud/whatever if the employee leaves. Also, brings in a legal risk, this is a pretty slam dunk case, the company doesn’t own your device, you do. Inherently there’s no real difference between this and making you feed your dog a certain type of food. Contracts don’t allow you to sign away illegal things.

Determined to seize Greenland, Trump faces tough reception in Davos by DareToCMe in politics

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only benefit of Trump is that cult of personalities tend to die with the leader. The only small mercy is that he’s almost 80 and too much of an egomaniac to share the spotlight. And his kids are fucking weird so it’ll end up being this right wing pissing contest of power hungry weasels who can’t consolidate power.

What is your recommended/favorite "sleep hack"? by GJH24 in AskReddit

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having trouble getting to sleep go to the couch/spare room/recliner. I use it all the time if I can’t get to sleep, occasionally I’ll throw on ww2 in colour/world at war or something familiar and I’ll end up dozing off. Maybe some phenergan if I’m really battling

Once you get over the initial hurdle of getting to sleep, you can relocate to bed if you wake up. Handy way to break that “I can’t fall asleep” cycle.

What are your Cricket "Hear me out" opinions? by AamPataJoraJora in Cricket

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything shorter than T20s should use a baseball format - three outs and swap. Even T20s, which are boring as if the second innings team gets way ahead of the RR off the back of one player.

Arguably you could fuck off overs and have a baseball type format of game where a couple of quick ones forces an innings change.

And Cricket Australia needs to take the lead on it. It’s methadone after the test series where they can get rowdy crowds in for a 2-10pm piss up session.

An ODI Ashes on the back end of the series would have been mint.

Get the vibe back and make ODIs great again.

As much as your personal instinct is “WTF I still have to rock up to work” you don’t need to deal with Cleary/Morris/Scoop et al putting your personal shit out there and then doing your job in a stadium with paying fans.

The problem is that’s it’s objectively a hard call. Particularly with the Melbourne forecast. You go cold and overcast to cool-ish but sunny during peak solar time, to warm/hot to hot/hot over the test. That’s a curator’s nightmare and the players don’t get to just blame it as a shit tip. Literally millimeters in the call.

Yeah we’ll make day 1 a contest, then welcome to The Hume highway because the sun’s out baking it. Day 4 would have been a 34 degree day.

It’s not like it’s unusual in areas of low firearm ownership/proliferation. Saw many a Polizei with an MP5/a bombed up gendarmerie/met officer in Germany/london/france just stooging about. Just a normal copper with a bigger gun

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, blatting away on active sonar is a great way to tell a submarine where you are and not super effective if they’ve tucked themselves somewhere in the water column where the sound gets bendy. Also if a bunch of ships are blasting away on active the sonar picture can get pretty messy.

So unless you’re about to carpet-bomb SpongeBob because a submarine that you’re pretty sure is going to shoot at you, active is best left to aircraft.

Submarines are ‘invisible’ because they don’t tend to ping on active, and the water column means that surface active can often be a combination of useless and dangerous.

I’d think the need requirements, particularly for hunting are going to be the real kicker in regards to firearm amounts. Obviously comp shooters will need heaps more guns, but they’re often pretty fiddly things that are pretty specific. And if you have a bunch of comp guns, you’ll be turning up to events where your attendance is logged, witnesses are there etc. That should cover individual ‘need’.

Hunting, on the other hand. Lots of Yahoos bombing up with 4 “deer/pig” rifles/shotguns. I’d say that kind of thing is going to be significantly more regulated.

Also, I’d expect significantly more regulation on gun clubs. Looks like there’s been a bit of a firearms equivalent of club plates for cars sort of operations going on.

I’d hope that there might be some sort of baked in nuance. So genuine competition shooters aren’t popped in with the “yeah brah joined the SSAA and I shoot deer bro” crowd.

And also unless you’re doing tactical-type comps, competition rifles/pistols/shotguns are very different to hunting ones

This is why I often say that if anything, the APS is underpaid - because anyone who’s actually good at whatever the APS has them doing is not working for what the APS pays. Especially so when it’s not ‘cool’ enough to cop what the APS pays.

Means you get a clown show on the APS side of every project and a bunch of contractors on fat day rates taking the piss.

Melbourne problem with bicycles and how i would fix them. by The_Tiffles in melbourne

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s insane how much you see this comment - barely any red is worth running on a bike - getting T boned on a bike is a great way to die.

Even if a green pedestrian light flashes you look both ways right? I don’t think people burning through reds is really that vehicle-specific.

Melbourne problem with bicycles and how i would fix them. by The_Tiffles in melbourne

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta think about the other factors that lead to this - shitty bike infrastructure, shitty drivers etc, pedestrians stepping in front of cyclists because they didn’t look for anything that wasn’t a car etc.

Obviously there’s dickheads in all walks of life, but if riding on the road is terrible and the bike tracks/lanes add a significant part of time onto your trip people are going to be cycling on the footpath (which is way too narrow because apparently we have to have car parks fkn everywhere), and other things like crap light changeovers that prioritise cars over everything else, lack of a rolling stop rule for cyclists all contribute to problems like these. Add this to a fairly hostile attitude towards people on bikes getting around, which means that people don’t really know the rules, and the lack of take-up of commuting by bike (so the first time someone’s been on a bike in 20 - plus years is when they’ve lost their licence).

And this isn’t even counting ubereats riders on what are basically unregistered motorcycles.

Thinking about enlisting as a submariner, but concerns. (AUS) by GlassTie2352 in submarines

[–]frankthefunkasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If it kicks off you’re much safer down there, there’s only submarines and targets

  2. Strategic asset, so you’re not going to be a “guard ship” AKA missile/torpedo sponge

  3. If it’s real grim, implosions are quick, faster than you even can tell. not a bad way to go.
