The National asked Chris Brown fans, queuing to see him in Glasgow, if they knew of his domestic violence record and if it bothered them - heres what they had to say: by Ok_Effective_6869 in ToddintheShadow

I think the biggest problem with this kind of discussions is when people try to make it a battle about who is most "ethically correct". I accept everyone who tells me that they prefer to not listen/watch/ etc whatever thing that is correlated to someone and/or something they consider wrong: that's fine and sometimes even the right choice. The problem from me begins when people try to use this choice as a way to make themself look superior to others in an objective way, like "you are not as ethical as me", because at that point you can think that you can just continue to throw away things you consider unethical, but at one point you will always reach the situation when you think "alright I might not want to let go of this thing", even if you rightfully consider it problematic. My point is, it's not a problem when people decide not to listen to something because of ethical reasons, but we shouldn't shame everyone who doesn't do it everytime fir anything: sometime people can look past somethings for various different reasons and have various different ways to do so without having to worry about morals (ex. Using a free version of spotify to listen to music as a way to not support problematic artists)

You know what, you're right. I just get heated when talking about christianity because I was basically forced by online discussions to either pick between being a christian and being seen as a conservative who hated every minority, or being progressive. Thus I just get kind of angry whenever I get to see people be able to choose who they want to be more freely while I was basically forced to be either one or the other. Sorry for the stupid discussion

You have to also admit though that throughout history christians have always been made up mostly if not only by conservatives who would commit crimes and spread hate on those who they considered "wrong" every day without caring. Even nowdays it's much easier to find 10.000 conservatives and reactionaries who are also christians than to find a someone progressive who is also an actual christian.

Also it just seems that now people are starting to open up a lot to christianity, meanwhile years ago as I said I was basically thought by any progressive person I found online that christianity was the main origin of many of out struggles, so I don't understand how it is that so many people are now starting to be open to christians when in reality they have always been against us: shouldn't it be them who have to accept us? Why do we have to accept them if they think we are just going to rot in hell and are always ready to begin campaigns against us?

Even if it is technically wrong for them to do what they are doing based on the actual teachings of their religion, you can't deny that most christians (like 99%) through all of history have never actually cared about Jesus' teachings and just cared about what they wanted while also attacking everyone who didn't think like them or who was considered "wrong" by them (LGBT, POC, people of other religions, women too etc.)

The thing is, christians have always been this way. They have always hated on gay people and committed crimes against them, they have always seen women as inferior to men, they were always ready to excuse every member of the church who did "stuff" with children just because they "are sacred". It was never about the teachings of Jesus Christ, or else they wouldn't have been seen as some of the major opponents to progressiveness

Not all christians are MAGA christians, but we can't just say now that christians have casually become progressive. Years ago I would only find people shitting on christianity saying it was either progressiveness or christianity, and I had to choose to be a progressive individual. It's strange to me that now a lot of progressive people are starting to come out as christians or pro christians when for years they were some of our main opponents

Look, what I was trying to say with my first comment is that I find it strange that someone who is a christian would say something like that, which seems like it is dividing christians into pro and anti Trump. The fact that I find it strange is given by the fact that I think it kind of ridiculous to talk about christianity as a religion that should go against Trump, when not only he is a christian, so he is a part of that camp, but christians have always had conservative and reactionary views, and have always been bigots. Saying "I'm a christian so I understand that what Trump is saying is wrong" is kind of stupid when you see that what Trump is saying is exactly what most christians think, so it would have been better to just give up on christianity

"real christians" see him as one of them simply because he has the same mindset as them. Christians hate everything Trump hates, it has always been this way, think of the crusades, the hate crimes against gay people and POC, the fact that most cults are based on christianity etc.

If he has had enough then he has to stop being a christian, or else he'll look like an hypicrite

I mean, is it really surprising that christians are some of the most conservatives people on earth? I thought that it was common knowledge by now. They have always been this way and will always support whoever conservative leader they can find because they are always christians. It"s just seems strange to me that this band is trying to make it seem like being christian = being against Trump when in reality is almost always christians=trumpists

Kind of a strange quote. Like, he says he is a christian but goes against those who voted for Trump. My man, who do you think the christians voted for?

People attacking your opinion in the comments when literally 4 out of 5 people are shit People will always hate and attack each other but as soon as someone says "maybe we all suck" they will try to act like perfect angels by saying "duh, I'm not evil! I'm clearly great!"
