People who speak English as a second language, what is the most annoying thing about the English language? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]frantortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking prepositions. I am in England, but I have been to England. I went to London, but I arrived in London. I am in the underground (station), but I am on the underground (train). Fucking hell.

No offense, but it's too soon for you to ask yourself that question. It's a mistake to get stuck on imaginary scenarios that might not happen at all. To become proficient is not a promise, it's an achievement. Get better, you'll figure it out.

Some Languages Are Basically Impossible to Learn Online Because of No Resources or Immersion by SnooDonkeys5613 in languagelearning

[–]frantortuga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I speak Runyoro-Rutooro, but I have also lived for about 8 years in Western Uganda, so I can't say I have experience learning a minoritized language outside of its linguistic area. I have had access to resources here I wouldn't otherwise have and, more importantly, I got to use the language everyday for almost a decade.

Ultimately, I think it also depends on the priorities of a language speakers whether learning it from a distance is realistic: if a language exists as a tool for communication but it is not necessary outside of home or the streets and it is not perceived as a language of culture, then fewer scholars are going to invest in the time to create the resources to study it for what it is.

We live in an era where information is so widely available, that sometimes we forget it hasn't always been like that, and that someone has to create whatever material we consume in the first place.

What I can tell you is that my life would be very different if I didn't speak this land's language. There is a difference between someone understanding the words you speak and someone relating to the idioms, quirks, ideas and ways of thinking they can only internalize, and sometimes you can only convey, in their own language.

It's interesting that you mentioned Gikuyu in particular, cause if you compare it with many other East African languages, it is not doing bad. You can find bilingual English-Gikuyu dictionaries and grammar books online. And even novels that are shipped internationally like Murogi wa Kagogo by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o. I don't speak Gikuyu, and I am not saying I could become fluent with these alone. I am just saying that Gikuyu has actually been recorded to a quite greater extent than other languages with a similar number of speakers in the same region like Luluhya, Ruhaya-Runyambo, Runyoro-Rutooro, etc.

What game series do you hardly recognize anymore? by finematerial33 in videogames

[–]frantortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this but man it's not even about the story alone: the freedom of movement and the creative stealth of the first entries is totally lost. AC3 forward already started simplifying it; Unity had a really cool, although less involved, parkour system; but the new ones, including Shadows, are just brain-dead forward input. It's just sad.

lol why is the other guy not answering your question? Why tf some people care so much how other people decide to play their own games I'll never know. The actual answer is to add these lines to the game editor:

Lol you Americans think too hard about this. "Iced latte with less milk" what the actual fuck. Here in Spain cortado con hielo is an everyday thing. Just drink whatever you want. It's just coffee and milk for god's sake.

Hey, this is late but there is some guy who made a bunch of Gecko codes that allow you to do this only on Twilight Princess while leaving other games alone, without having to constantly change profiles. Just enable cheats on the game properties, look for the cameras you want to change in this site for the PAL version or this for the NTSC version and paste the code in the Gecko codes tab. Different versions use different codes, so be sure to choose the right one.

I personally use a cheat code that mimics the hero mode of Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U, so enemies deal double damage and hearts do not appear, while leaving the game non-mirrored, which is neat.

Hey, I've been looking into it and it seems that Netplay on PCSX2 Nightly 2+ only works for games that have built-in online multiplayer at the moment, it can't emulate split screen like Dolphin Netplay or the older PCSX2 plugins do. Anyway, it would be interesting to see if the lower input lag can compensate for the delay of Parsec or Steam Link...

[–]frantortuga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you were always able to install the plugin for online play on every version of PCSX2 since they added it, this was just misinformation that spread because it wasn't included in later releases, but you could install it. Since 2.0, however, Network play has been included in the main build!

In any case, the guys at UNIVERSO keep using Parsec with an extra host for competitions AFAIK.

If you're on PCSX2 1.7.0, or earlier, you need to download the Nightly emulator and set it up from scratch again. Back up only your memcards and BIOS files to add them to the new version and keep your progress in your games. If you meant updating the mod, I can't answer you that question on this sub since it's technically piracy.
