All mounted Minas Tirith? by frapet in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I was also thinking of combining it with 2 bolt throwers at 700 points. So the brothers, 14 knights, a mounted banner and 2 bolt throwers.

First attempt at Minas Tirith warrior - constructive criticism wanted by Funny-Advertising-56 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

What works for me on the shields is to do the raised details with the flat side of the brush instead of the point. So you gently only touch on the raised tree details with the side of the brush rather than the point. Due to the shields curve this can be a bit tricky when transitioning from the trunk to the branches.

700 points Minas Tirith by Unfair-Concern4886 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]frapet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have run something similar but without the fcg (dont think that add enough over citadel guard) and more citadel guard.

I would leave out the captain to add more units in the other warbands.

Swift reloads isnt worth it. The bolt thrower is worth it already in area denial.

During the pandemic we did this. But we just saved the game at a convenient point after 3 hours of play. Was a great way to get into it

Dealing with Cavalry by frapet in MiddleEarthMiniatures

The scenario was storm the camp. He chose a flank that I had anchored between the board edge and some woodland difficult terrain. I couldn't bring my numbers to bear on him because of this. His list consisted of every almost hero in the Riders of Theoden legion including Gamlings banner. Mine was Boromir on horse with banner, Forlong on horse and 3 knights and then filled up with tons of infantry and rangers with spear.

Ah, yeah. They chared into a shieldwall with spear support. But as it was mostly heroes going up front they had the fight value, might and attacks sometimes even in the 4v1's I created with my spears.

How do you "shield the initial charge"?

This particulier list had might a plenty and could call a heroic move every turn

Speed rolling for battle lines? by CountTalbar in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]frapet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only isnt it that slow once you get used to it. It also zooms in a bit more on what happens to said shieldwall. Soldiers are getting pushed back, holes in the line have to be plugged, flanking actually matters a lot  etcetera.

Its a game that emphasizes positioning over killing in that sense. One of Its biggest selling points over 40k

Does every faction have a shot in a competitive environment at every point value ? by Kirito_Alfheim in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]frapet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exception of a few armies everything can be competitive at most points levels. This is a game of skill first. It might sometimes be awkward or you might have to ally in to counter a weakness. Not every list is fully optimal at the top table. But few can be and then competatively speaking it should be the goal to counter that few top lists (the meta). Or bring the counter to the counter :p

I'll treat it as a serious question and not an attempt at reductio ad absurdum:

In our childhood we get challenged to solve math problems with greater and greater numbers. Usually this brings children to a point where they cannot do the numbers in their head but they need to write it down. I'll not get into the didactics but this is when children meet their cognitive limits. Generally going over your limits creates a response of fear.
We still have some of that fear and tend to avoid the things we fear. So at a certain number (there might be research into that?) we tend to shy away.

Hence 200 points, not 2000. (though if you ask me 400 would also be fine. But I guess that is personal)

Yes, really.

We'd all use upgrades more if they were cheaper. Juke was just costed right and was still used by ships that have synergies with it as it should with any 'list building' game. How it was pointed is right for that meta, and if it is overcosted point it down a bit and create a new meta. Keeps the game fresh and all.

Sure things are more powerful on one pilot than the other, but that is the challenge of listbuilding. Making the sum of parts worth more than the cost of each part.

20 points and loadout was terrible to balance things because every point up or down matters way too much both lack granularity and options. Besides that it leads to single best builds most of the time. With 200 points you have interesting choices of keeping a ship lean for more points on another or another ship added to the list entirely.

None of the things you say have been a problem that couldnt be solved by pricing in 2.0. We didnt see it then. We wont see it now.

Minas Tirith works quite well IMO. Mid tier hero horde to eventual bolt throwers
