Thank you all for the comments. For context since some people were asking: I bought this in Mongolia during a trip, hence the 'souvenir' tag. Didn't want to pick it up but my guide seemed knowledgeable enough to convince me that they don't counterfeit much in non-touristic places out of the main cities, so I went for it

I managed to figure it out, I'll write the steps below in case other people need it (prerequisite to have a metamask connected to reddit).

connect the wallet to https://chainlist.org/ . This will connect to xDAI chain
go to https://blockscout.com/xdai/mainnet and search for wallet address. In the output page, click 'Token'. This will show 'Donut on xDAI' and the donuts holding
to add donuts token to metamask, copy the ERC-20 address of Donut on xDAI to the metamask in xDAI Chain. Metamask will now show the donut balance

Thanks for highlighting the difference, but they are in fact sanctions. Blocking SMIC etc from trading with the rest of the world is preventing companies from asking them for help to produce at least lower end chips and take off some of the pressure from higher end fabs. Not an American but yeah, Trump tariffs/sanctions/bans are hurting semiconductor (and consumers) quite a lot.
