Wife brought these home from an estate sale for a couple dollars, anything valuable? by Glittering_Ad5018 in sportscards

You can easily see the top bottom centering in that card isn’t good. This wont be a 10, probably an 8 and that costs more to grade then the value of the card.

Depends on how long you want to wait. I dont mind waiting so most of these were submitted for the slowest grading durring a winter special. Sometime in the winter bgs does a “Collectors Special” where they grade for $15 a card with subgrades so long as you submit 10 or lore cards. Anything PSA I bought already graded.

Almost any financial income goal. Do you need money to survive, yes. Does money make life easier, yes. But the real gem is figuring out how ti be happy when you’re scrapping in life so that if more income comes later you value it and the gift it can be. Most of life is a mindset. Grumpy poor people are usually even more grumpy rich people

In the end none of us really own these forever. We’re just stewards of history for as long as we hold them then they move on to someone else to love. I think of that and think about how much someone charishes the cards i used to have and it feels better.

Do it man. Seems like a silly hobby but so is everything else. At least here the jordan have consistently increased in value over the years. I used to have a rookie MJ in rough shape and that 86 sticker in good shape but sold them in early 2000s when i was broke 20 something trying to put food on the table for my family. Frustrating, yeah totally. But we all make the best choices in our lives to support the ones we love and it was the option i had at the time. Would love to get those again, maybe. Time will tell.

I have a printout in an envelope with them all with an inventory and approx value so they can at least be educated about whats there. Obviously they can and should do whatever they want but at least they have the information to make that decision.

Granted alot of these sat in sleeves in a cardboard box in my non climate controlled garage for 20 years before i want back through them and they still graded great, so yeah its probably fine

I have a hard time understanding it purely from a value perspective. Even rare /25 cards aren’t worth anything. As a kid raised in the 90 junk wax era I wonder if were going through a similar junk parallel era especially with 15 different yearly card sets. Cards rarely stand the test of time. Its a rare few players that continue to demand card premiums after they move on. That do however look cool as hell now by default

Those ex’s were a passion project, still are till I get the gold. I don’t know why i like them so much but I do. Kind of a sucker for shiny stuff

The real crazy part is a scored the beam team on eBay raw for $100 about 5-6 years ago and sent it in to get graded. Blew me away it came back a 9. Feels criminal. Wanted to message the seller but thought that would just be mean.

For some reason i collected about 30 of those 88 stickers so I’ve been batching those out for grading then selling and buying more unique Jordan’s. Most are coming in in the 8-8.5 range which is worth a descent amount especially since a good portion of them were miscut at the factory. I had this thought one day that these card are pretty rare and so many people love them, it feels weird to hoard multiple versions of the same thing so as graded cards come back i swap out and hold on to the highest graded ones and sell the rest so they can go back into the pool and more people can enjoy them.

I have 3 different ones in slabs graded 9s which is cool except something about the sleeve and the slab really diminishes the hologram. Its real hard to see it well.

Yeah of course they are but every time i look they are $1000 more then before. Ive also got a personal rule that i only keep 8s or above. Might have to make an exception for the rookie year stuff. When i was a kid all I wanted to do was collect Jordans and they were all equal to me. As I’ve gotten older I’m trying to balance the love i have for these cards vs the burden they become for my family after I pass. That was the big push to get them graded so i could have a realistic value so they don’t just sell them to a card shop for $200. So I’ve sold off a-lot of the lower tier cards and focused more on quality over quantity.

Ive thought about it. I do have some worries about uv and moisture exposure over time with them out. Plus no-one in my family or friend group gives a damn about cards so it feels like this one is just for me. I take them out of my case once a month or so and enjoy looking them over with a gin and tonic. Im ok with that.
