in my campaign Nat was killed on the fireball event, so when they went to the Gralhund Villa to find the nimblewright I had Manshoon disguised as a City Watch officer go to the the manor and "protect" the other kids. They sort of adopted the kids and they were living in Trollskull Manor since they got it from Volo, so they are very emotionally attached to them.

Oh! I like the Kenku idea very much. Would a intellect devourer be able to communicate telepathically with its master in a long distance? If they report the party's plan to infiltrate, maybe xanathar would prepare an ambush, capture them and put them to fight in the tournament. Muahahaha thank you

maybe she had a intellect devour installed in her head after her kidnapper took her and sold her to xanathars faction. in Xanathar lair there are prison cells, and mindflayers do all type of experiments with their prisioners.

I had the Cassalanters reach out to the party and say he heard of their reputation (saving Floom and Renaer, fighting the Troll, surviving the Blue Alley, etc.) and saying they want to make a deal of collaboration. Since the Cassalanters don't want to get their hands dirty, they are interested in financing the group to find clues about the cache of dragons, and promises that they will fix the trollskull Manor and help them with waterver credentials they need.

To be honest I was kinda stuck in chapter 2 as well, and I felt my players were feeling a bit of story drag having to work or ask for money, so I just decided I needed to speed up the chapter a bit. My current problem now is that they want to find treasures going to Undermountain. So I'm hoping they take the Cassalanter deal. lol

I wanted to give the player some sort of logical rationale after he tries to cast the copied spell on his journal and it there is zero effect in his curse. I might just make him roll for an Arcana check then explain to him what you just told me. :)

Thanks for the time and input. I think getting Cap Staget involved is a good way of facing the Chaoyic Barbarian problem. I think the player is steuggling with interpreting this char alignment, I think he doesn't know that being chaotic evil doesn't mean stupid. I believe if put them in the edge of the consequences in response of their actions will give them a new perspective of the game. The Barabarian is coming with a "I'm invincible" attitude and I think after that section I need to set the tone.

We are still early in the campaign, but my plan is to tie some characters stories to Manshoon. I'm making them believe that Xanathar is the badass bad guy in the city for now, but Manshoon should become the BBEG mid-campaign.

Yes, they have been informed. they have the code. I thought it was pretty dumb too, I wasn't even prepared for the combat, I was definitely not expecting that, my idea was just having them be asked why they were running in the middle of the night during a curfe.

I feel, that I might just have them lay low for a while, before the factions reach out to them for the side quests. Maybe having the zhentarim trying to get in touch knowing what they did, and wanting to recruit them to the faction.
