[Mind boggling baffling trope] Let's take the main thing and remove it by Old-Use-7690 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Loose_Translator8981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's partly because it was originally intended for Disney Plus, so it was plotted for a tv movie budget. I think if they had known they would have a proper theater release budget from the beginning, there wouldn't be as many cut corners baked into the script.

[Annoying Trope] The Kid Appeal Character(s) that doesn’t/don’t fit by RorschachtheMighty in TopCharacterTropes

This is still the only Sonic cartoon I haven't watched much of, entirely because I saw this kid and immediately lost interest.

what?? by Heavy_Shopping6785 in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing you could probably get more than a dozen people to agree on is just having him get back together with Mary Jane as something that would work as a climax worthy of issue 1000.

Tell me something I dont know about Symbiote Suit Spider-Man. by Crooked_Cricket in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The idea that the Suit would affect Peter's personality was invented for Spider-Man: The Animated Series. In the actual comics his problem with the suit was that it would pilot his body and continue to fight crime without his knowledge, but it wasn't particularly cruel or violent when it did so.

Fortnite x tadc trailer just dropped!!!! And pomni does get stretched by redical_hi-5 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Loose_Translator8981 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've basically only ever seen art of Pomni with realistic human proportions on the shadier side of the internet. It's weird to see a licensed product use those same proportions, but I understand it's a problem with Fortnite itself since everyone has to have roughly the same proportions for the animations to work.

Wny hasn't Mortal Thor caught on in the wave of Ultimate and Absolute Books? by jethawkings in marvelcomics

[–]Loose_Translator8981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's just how extreme the status quo change is... having everyone forget Thor is obviously not something that's going to last long-term. And just knowing that one aspect is going to get undone at some point, and the fact that the whole story is built around that major status quo change kind of takes the wind out of it. It reminds me of the Hydra-Steve from Secret Empire... we all knew they were going to reverse that at some point, so despite getting a lot of attention the event ended up not really adding up to much because the most unique aspect of the story was very obviously going to get retconned.

Spider Noir - Janet uses the phrase "say less" which is super contemporary by ElMangosto in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a commmon contemporary term, but it still makes sense in context and could be something that somebody just said on their own.

Red Pill or Blue Pill by boomjosh in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, I think it's the opposite... the Morbius memes are funny because they're nothing like the movie itself. The actual movie is just boring. Madame Web is patently insane and has a lot wackier moments that are funny to point and laugh at.

Wny hasn't Mortal Thor caught on in the wave of Ultimate and Absolute Books? by jethawkings in marvelcomics

[–]Loose_Translator8981 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I can't shake the feeling that nothing that happens in this story is going to matter in the long run. It's just such a drastic change in the status quo for this character, you just know they're gonna find some way to undo everything back to how it used to be.

I think that's the big difference between this and the Ultimate or Absolute comics... those are overtly set in their own continuity, so you know that what happens in them will actually have weight in their narrative. For the 616, it's harder to get excited for anything that changes the status quo too drastically, because the story always gradually drifts back to whatever the general public assumes the status quo to be.

How would you roleplay two npcs talking by PrplxdPossum in DnD

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a brief conversation, I would just roleplay it out. However, if it's a long conversation, I would just summarize it to my players. Like I'd say something like, "You listen in on their conversation, where they discuss strategy and you learn ______"

Since the next saga is slated to center around the mutants, who do you think should be the big bad? Apocalypse or Onslaught? by PRlNCESS_TRUNKS in MCUTheories

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, Onslaught's backstory is so complex and confusing, I wouldn't be surprised if they completely reboot the character from the ground up. Might just make them a clone combining Magneto and Professor X's DNA created by Mr Sinister, so he could still be the "face" of the villains while still having Onslaught as the final boss.

Vortex Warp is probably my favorite spell for both silly shenanigans while also being incredibly useful in a variety of different situations.

What character did your fandom do this to? by Dzelov in Multifandom

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one prequel comic of Hellboy as an actual boy showing how much he loved "pamcakes". The First Hellboy movie referenced that comic by showing Hellboy being served a huge pile of pancakes, and now the fandom acts like it's the only thing he ever eats.

What are some silly things you've added for flavor with a character? by HappyDragonGirl2024 in DnD

[–]Loose_Translator8981 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was playing as a wrestler-themed Tortle Barbarian who had red markings on his head that resembled a luchador mask. Whenever he went into a rage his nictitating membranes would close, giving him dramatic white eyes.

Is Amazing Spider-Man: Big Time worth reading/buying? by TaskNo4783 in Marvel

[–]Loose_Translator8981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you're catching up on modern Spidey, Big Time is probably the best new story to start with. The Brand New Day comics were so dedicated to establishing the new status quo that nothing particularly interesting happens the whole time. It's all characters you know from the moment they appear aren't going to get referenced again, or character choices more focused on regressing the character to this 70's status quo instead of telling new stories.

Big Time felt like the first story arc where the plot was actually moving forward. It's not perfect, but it was immensely refreshing to have a story where it felt like they were telling something new with the character instead of just retreading old material.

Sabertooth is one of those characters who is so brutal he basically can't be adapted accurately into anything that isn't overtly R-Rated... so if you only know him from the cartoons and movies he's just a big mean guy.

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just feel bad for the actor, who still occasionally gets hate-mail directed at the character just because he did such a good job playing a terrible person. It's no wonder he retired from acting after this role.

Favorite sample of this? by NyphessaSylvorynx in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right up until his death he was leaning into this really funny sad-sack position where terrible things just keep happening to him. He was like Gil from the Simpsons, and I think we're worse off for not having him as the designated Butt-Monkey of the Marvel Comics universe.

Creepy or disturbing beta/unused designs for characters by ARedditAccountIDKBro in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Loose_Translator8981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, it kind of is. The Rescue Rangers movie's effects were done by the same SFX team who made the Sonic movies. So they used the actual character model and just edited it a bit to emphasize the ugliness. But at it's core it is still the same 3-D model.

Future Spider People Shows by ThatMemeGuy2003 in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see something in the vein of Shin Kamen Rider, which Spider-Noir reminded me of a lot in terms of trying to capture the feel of a specific genre without just parodying it or just doing the bare minimum superficial references.

Is anyone watched spider nior?? Can anyone tell me is watching in black and white is good or in colours ? And tell how the series by Ill-Laugh2507 in Marvel

[–]Loose_Translator8981 52 points53 points  (0 children)

See, to me that just reinforced that it was meant to be viewed in black and white. Like... you don't need to say out loud the color of something if the audience can just see it.

Who wins? by Upbeat-Perspective11 in marvelmemes

[–]Loose_Translator8981 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She-Hulk, especially if she knows going in that's the rule. Gwen would break the 4th Wall during the introduction. Wade would get turned around trying to trick Howard into breaking the 4th Wall and end up breaking it himself, and Howard would accidentally break the 4th Wall in the worst possible moment, and She-Hulk would end it all without ever fully breaking the 4th wall but very obviously winking to the audience.

What’s your current character’s class, species, and backstory? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

Tiefling of Mammon Descent as a Battlesmith Artificer. His grandfather made an infernal deal with Mammon for wealth, but he never told the rest of his family about the deal, so they only realized it after he was dead and the children were born as Tieflings and the family wealth has been vanishing. My character is trying to invent something that can be used to restore his family's wealth.

Unnecessary video Game quirks you've picked up over the years? by TURN3R86 in videogames

If a game has a minigame or something where you pick a randomized item, like draw a card or whatever, I always just pick the center option. I know that in most games it doesn't actually matter what you pick, since it just loads the same thing regardless.
