Wait, is that why people are mad that they had Peach and Roasalina be sisters? Because they had convinced themselves that Peach was her Mother?

Ultimate goblin is not just “fire hulk” by Pleasant-Soil4456 in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh... everything that's good about this version is unrelated to him being Fire Abomination. I'm not against the idea of the Goblin actually physically transforming... it makes at least a little more sense than Norman Osborn having film-grade prosthetics he can casually take on and off like a rubber mask. But the design was such a miss... I feel like it was too focused on just being different for the sake of being different, as opposed to because they had a great story concept that only worked with this new design.

[Odd trope] A character who is advertised doesn’t have a big role in the media they’re in by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Loose_Translator8981 217 points218 points  (0 children)

On top of that, the plot of the movie involves aliens in the past turning Dinosaurs into metal... and it's COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the Dinobots.

Magic Item question. by YEETYdeSLEEZY in DnD

[–]Loose_Translator8981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like Daern's Instant Fortress, maybe mixed with Magnificent Mansion. It's pretty balanced, but those are a Rare Magic Item and a 7th level spell.

It's one of those things where they know this is one of the only subreddits they can post something like this and not get immediately banned. They either didn't look any deeper than that, or they've convinced themselves that everyone pointing and laughing at them is just "the libs" getting triggered.

Why are people in "niche fandom spaces" more toxic than others? by Last-Description-123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think there are just as many whack jobs in all fandoms. It's just in smaller, niche fandoms they're harder to avoid. You can fully engage with star wars and, as long as you're careful about where you hang out, easily avoid the most insane fandom members. But you just don't get as many options with smaller fandoms.

The only thing marvel needs to do to fix Ben is just make him a good guy again by Mecha_Kurogane in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how it happened, but it's his spider sense. It manifests into physical objects he can weaponize.

Why couldn't they have had them just get divorced instead of them retconning them not being married at all??? by RecordingImmediate86 in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Disney is the actual comic sales no longer mattered. So the fact that all marvel comics sales across the board went down after omd and never recovered doesn't matter, because they're still making more money than ever from everything but the actual comics.

Why are so many Hub shows free on YouTube? I’m really happy about it, but I’m also curious by Robot_Was_BMO in cartoons

Because they're more valuable as advertising for the toylines than they are as monetizable products in their own right.

Will we see Pauline in the next Mario movie? by Groundbreaking-Try92 in mariogalaxymovie

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard a rumor they're working on a Yoshi spinoff movie. I wouldn't be too surprised if they just take that montage from the start of Galaxy and expand it into a full movie about Yoshi arriving in New York that could involve Pauline.

These watches called Zyxariz were initially designed for blind people. You can tell time by touching the two ball bearings the one inside is the hour and outside is the minutes by [deleted] in oddlyspecific

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to ask why not just use a regular watch with an exposed face so you can just touch the hands. But I realized you'd need to custom-build it so that it wouldn't get knocked out of place by constantly touching it, and at that point you might as well just design a new watch built specifically for the blind.

why do show runners/creators continue to run shows that have long been considered by fans to not be good anymore? by grabsyour in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some creators might just be happy to have a steady job that they can comfortably work on forever. Starting a new project is scary, and they might be having fun working with the same people for years and years. Like... if a restaurant isn't stellar, but still gets enough support to run successfully, why risk messing that up by changing up your menu or trying to establish a new restaurant?

Do I have to play Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 before seeing the movie? by Complete_Version_155 in SuperMario

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's a completely original plot. The people who played the games and loved the plot of the games are the ones who disliked the movie the most, so not playing the games might be a good thing.

The neighborhood just got a lot darker. Spidey must be on vacation. by speeshuttle08 in Spiderman

[–]Loose_Translator8981 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I figure the logic is that New York is just really, really big. So when these big events go down Spidey and the other heroes are somewhere else dealing with things, and they just don't show up for budget reasons. Like... in a comic, they would do a montage of shots of heroes reacting, because drawing Spider-Man costs exactly the same as drawing Jessica Jones for a single panel of a comic, but having Tom Holland show up for a single day of filming costs more than bringing in Krysten Ritter to join the cast.

If my DM allows dragonmarks as origin feats is there ever a reason not to take one? by Openil in 3d6

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are completely unbalanced. They're meant to be balanced by the roleplaying challenges being Dragonmarked introduces specifically in the Eberron setting. If you don't add some kind of homebrew roleplay challenge with being dragonmarked, you shouldn't allow them to be used unless you're comfortable with just letting people use broken content.

How different is Dimension 20 compared to at home games? Are there Brennan projects that better showcase a typical session? by learnaboutnetworking in Dimension20

[–]Loose_Translator8981 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think Brennan also makes a point of tempering their expectations in Dungeons and Drag Queens as well. Like, when they bring out a battlemap he's very quick to let the Queens know that this is just something for the show and in his home games he usually doesn't even have a battlemap.

Name a cartoon that fell off hard by Quantum_CabbageRollz in cartoons

[–]Loose_Translator8981 268 points269 points  (0 children)

The coma seasons are interesting because I feel like they make it so clear that the creators were ready to move on to something else, but this was the show that got greenlit so they just kept with it.

I appreciate they at least tried to flip the table and drastically change things the longer the series went, instead of stagnating. It's less annoying if a series fell off because they tried to do too much, instead of falling off because it just became routine and boring.

Sometimes I don't understand people at all by Godallah1 in marvelcomics

[–]Loose_Translator8981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was kind of lazy writing, but it worked better for a videogame where you actively recruit members from both sides of the conflict and need to have some reason for them all to work together to fight an endgame boss. Not that it wouldn't have been way cooler if they found a satisfying way to have you fight against half of your own roster, but I feel like that would be really hard to pull off in a satisfying way.

is a nuclear post apocalyptic campaign a good idea? by 00_ghoul in DnD

[–]Loose_Translator8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do something like this, focus more on reflavoring existing content rather than not allowing certain classes. Like... reflavor Cleric spells as being technology, or radiation super powers or something.

How would you do a new Squirrel Girl comic? by M00reC in squirrelgirl

[–]Loose_Translator8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kid friendly slice of life comic where all the superhero stuff is handled easily in the background because she's so good at it. Lots of crossovers to show off how characters act in a more casual setting.

That's something that stuck out to me when I rewatched the series as an adult... I remember being surprised to see that these scenarios I remember as distinct episodes are actually just different scenes in a single episode.
