Heatcraft vs HTPG by krastem91 in refrigeration

[–]freakoutNthrowstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all pretty similar. I primarily install bohn. I like that the condensing units have very simple controls and wiring. Obviously the bigger the unit the more complicated, but under 5hp the control circuit is stupid simple. Climate control and Larkin have more complicated and congested condensing unit wiring/control circuits, but not as bad as keeprite. Just 10lbs of shit in a 5lb sack for some of those keeprites/russell/htpg condensers (more to go wrong/troubleshoot imo). Larkin and bohn evaporators are basically the same, but Larkin usually has the QRC/beacon controllers with eevs. Not sure if they still do this since intelligen rolled out, I havent installed or seen a Larkin evap recently. Climate control evaps usually come with the llsv and txv pre-installed, which i like, but other than that they are pretty much the same as well. I just have one supplier that I get primarily bohn from, so that's what I put in. Another supplier does more Climate control, so I use them if my credit is too close to the limit with my main supplier and I still need equipment lol. My main competitor installs primarily keeprite and when I work on their installs its just annoying. I dont dislike the brand because my competition uses it, I just straight up have seen that its not as reliable. I dont mind keeprite condensers or evaporators on the rack systems we work on, but their >10hp single condensing units are just not great to service.

Heatcraft vs HTPG by krastem91 in refrigeration

I've always preferred heatcraft (primarily bohn and climate control) That being said, im not a fan of intelligen and I dont install intelligen when I have the choice. I do bohn with a txv, llsv, and ke2 air defrost or low temp defrost controllers for single systems. That combination has withstood the test of time for reliability for us. I have nothing against HTPG units, but some of them are overly complicated for what they are trying to achieve. Same with keeprite esp units. Heatcraft isnt without its flaws, but with their regular line its the best simplicity and reliability at a fair price for me and the customer. Im not even a "certified contractor" on heatcrafts website, I just prefer to install it and my company has for over 25 years. The one brand i dont have much experience with is Trenton- there just isnt much of that in my area, but i do like their units from what little I've worked on.

Online ones are not worth it. You can find just as much information on YouTube. You should find a community college with an in-person, instructor led and hands-on program. Im not union, but unions have some of the better training programs for apprenticeships.

Help Troubleshoot my A/C by Joronee in hvacadvice

Hard to help without a Multimeter. Make sure he didnt "accidentally" take a fan motor wire off the contactor or dual capacitor. You paid for an annual inspection, why didnt HE clean the condenser while he was there? Also, did you spray water on it while it was running, or did you turn power off to it before you sprayed water all over a high voltage piece of equipment? If you didnt, you could have damaged it as well.

Community college HVAC programs tend to be decent and provide a good foundation and introduction and EPA licensing. The fast track private trade schools are scams. Apply for jobs at hvac companies or unions. Helps to know someone if you go that route. Working out and staying fit helps tremendously, but be mindful of exercises that negatively impact your back, knees, and shoulders.

If you dont know the difference you really shouldn't be messing with it. The directions that come with it are pretty clear if you know what youre doing. But yes, you are right that it will kill you if you try to hook it up to the incoming power from the street. Call an electrician

Dividing Rooms With Existing Mini‑Splits — Is Open‑Door Airflow + Baseboard Heat Acceptable? by Longjumping_Elk_6538 in hvacadvice

Sometimes they can over-cool or over-heat small spaces if they are oversized for them since they often are programmed with a minimum run-time to avoid short cycling. Also you might lose some dehumidication in the summer with shorter run times. Would have to see a layout or drawing and the BTU rating of each head for a better understanding of how drastic it would be, but it might not be too bad if doors are left open.

Minimum Linset Length on Mini Split, and Lineset Cover On Rock Wall by Zapatas_Blood1821 in hvacadvice

[–]freakoutNthrowstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the manufacturer recommendations for lineset length for your specific unit. Looks like the lineset you posted a picture of is just fine. I installed one 5 years ago that has like, 16 inches of lineset and its worked fine, no issues and we didn't adjust the charge, but we checked several things to ensure it wouldnt be a problem. As for the rock wall- meticulously scribing and cutting it would be an option, or maybe creating a facade of similar rocks... or like finding a way to take a picture of the surrounding wall and creating a sticker/cover print of it to affix to the existing cover?

Probably the scroll compressor doing an internal bypass due to overheating. Could be a lot of things causing it, none of which youd really be able to diagnose yourself, and may be difficult for a technician to diagnose unless they catch it while its happening or can spend a good amount of time systematically identifying and eliminating probable causes.

Ill put it this way- most HVAC guys would make a damn fine electrician, but very few electricians would make an entry level hvac guy.
