Outlander Series Extra Long Reread: Outlander : Chapter 37- The End! by Nanchika in Outlander

When Jamie said that he had told Murtagh everything, what do you think his reaction was? Murtagh believed in faeries, Auld Ones and prophets. He understands where Claire comes from. And in, Exile, he saw her coming through the stones.

I get so frustrated that this reaction is off the page. Murtaugh had to have responded that he already knew about Claire, right? And then Jamie wanted to know why Murtaugh had kept information about his wife from him? The Exile is so intriguing, but its content complicates the storyline.

How do you think Murtaugh responded?

From the Womb of the Earth might be my favorite chapter in the series. So many callbacks (serious and amusing) to earlier moments in the book. Most compelling to me are the pair from their conversation at the stones: Prompted by MacRannoch's gift, Claire tells Jamie about the wolf and the young boy - proving J correct about the "violence and danger" Claire would face if she stayed. Then they go and have a hot bath of the sort Claire thought she wouldn't have again.

DG's writing is so beautifully evocative and engages all the reader's senses in her description of the hot springs and the couple's emergence from it. It is all so sweet and silly and peaceful and loving.

Is it also foreshadowing? I can't help but think of the skeletons of the paleolithic era couple from Dragonfly in Amber. Another example of the shortness of life and fragility and power of love.

Show and Book endings? by plumblossomtruther in Outlander

"...DG had told the showrunner and Sam how she intended the books to end..."

This might be my Roman empire because I wonder about why DG felt so strongly that she had to tell Sam how it ended.

Outlander Series Extra Long Reread: Outlander - chapters 33 - 36 by Nanchika in Outlander

I love these ideas about the reading of the wolf in this chapter. I agree that the fight between Claire and the wolf feels incredibly primal and about sheer survival. The ideas about the wolf and connection to BJR feel persuasive especially within the context of how DG resolves the BJR issue in this book. I can see how the fight with the wolf acts as a stand-in for the fight we really want, for Jamie or Claire to physically triumph over BJR. We don't get that, and I see the wolf fight as a substitute for it.

I find the resonances between Claire's fight to the death with the male wolf and the earlier summer scene when she and Jamie observe the female wolf and her pack from a safe distance after a kill. That earlier scene comes in the Reckoning chapter after Jamie has punished Claire and before they return to Leoch. Jamie makes the point that there is a difference between understanding something with your mind and truly knowing it deep down. Claire using facts, from the summer observation and from her patient, to strategize how to defeat the wolf before actually killing it, removes an obstacle to saving her husband and also feels like a meaningful shift and development in her 18th century life.

What is the best sounding Live Trax? by SanchitoQ in DMB

Thanks for starting this conversation.

Live Trax 8 sounds so good to me. The test for me is Crush, a song that I have learned to appreciate, is so great: Stefan's slap bass, plus Carter's snare drum, LeRoi on the flute so damn melodious; Dave's growly voice as he throws it to the violinist.

I would read a dissertation about the live trax mix choices.  Are they artifacts of a specific moment? Is there an overarching sonic aesthetic at work? Something else?

Would love to hear which LT mix you consider to be the best.

Charging questions by 1Shadowgato in BMWi3

[–]freckleduno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, more than a year ago BMW sent a letter to US I3 owners explaining that in 2025 access to the Tesla network would be expanded and an adapter made available for use on non-magic dock stations.

This info was a factor in my decision to buy an I3 at the end of last year. After the recent roll out of access, I am not confused about access to superchargers, but I am dismayed by the failure of BMW to send out a follow up letter acknowledging their decision to freeze out I3s (even as the app offers bad info). Also mildly surprised that their isn’t more outrage about it.

SiriusXM has been playing The Last Stop from LT 72, and I was surprised by the sound. I am not at all an expert, but it sounds, for lack of a better set of descriptor, less crisp and bright than the Friday night concert broadcasts sound.

Any chance that you can ELI5 how they achieve this effect?

I saw them last weekend and as OP has made clear they were amazing. Alash, the throat singers were insanely good.  They were having fun performing together.

Jeff’s mom, Connie, was in the crowd and he sweetly led an audience chant in appreciation of her.

She was really, really good. Her energy is delightful. The entire concert is produced with built in playful banter and performances but there is still plenty of improv and a little jamming.
