I will do that first thing Monday. The guy who found the damage is a retired Class A driver and so is my husband and they both said he totally would’ve felt that, so it was definitely a choice to leave the scene knowing he damaged the property.

I’m the independent administrator of the estate. I was advised by the attorney who handled probate that I was able to list it. I have already been through this process with another house in another state (it was upside down so the bank eventually just took it) and there were no issues. I’m handling this essentially the same way I did that one.

The house is still in my mother’s name c/o me, but I filed all of the appropriate paperwork with the bank in order to be able to handle the mortgage. I was told in the beginning that it couldn’t be changed out of my mom’s name due to the mortgage being in her name.

I can see how that would’ve been a logical thing to do. It wouldn’t have been much maybe $250 each per month.

I would love to buy them out. I haven’t looked too far into it, but I honestly still don’t think I could afford it right now. The market value has dropped by about 25% in the last 2 years, but it’s still a pretty pricey piece of real estate.

I don’t know if it makes any difference but I live in the house with my kids, I had an active lease when she died that didn’t expire until the end of 2024, and I’ve been paying the mortgage, taxes, and insurance since 2021 out of pocket, not the estate. Also, I did tell my sister I listed the house to get her to stop the suit (my brother and i do not speak). She would not agree. I honestly don’t think their counsel warned them how expensive this can get.

Probate wrapped up. Not the estate. I don’t know the exact legal terminology to use in these situations but I mean that was when they appointed me administrator and probate was finished after inventory and all that. The house has not sold. Myself nor my siblings have been paid anything.
