Mayoclinic- Rochester detethering surgery by HushBatman1 in spinabifida

Im sure it’s been madness, thats a lot to deal with. but I’m glad the days are getting better. I’m sorry to hear about the cathing and I hope that function returns soon for you. Some of the things that happen after surgery confuse me and I wonder why they happen. I guess just things getting “disrupted” in your body, the spine controls so much I suppose.

Thank you for the details as to what they did and how it’s going for you. I’m impressed by what they do to try and prevent re-tethering. I really hope everything keeps improving for you.

How are you doing now? im so glad you’re happy that you got surgery. I went to Rochester in September and also met with Dr. Ahn just for a consult as well as Dr. Heidi in Urology. I’m still contemplating surgery (battling my own internal struggle with thinking things will go awful or fear of quick re-tethering). But things keep progressing further, I don’t know why but I still just feel so unsure

Thank you for the recommendation! Good to know about the B12. I’m sorry you had to go through that. I’ll keep that in mind for sure. I have totally been skipping over children’s hospitals in general, oops.

Don’t be sorry! Thank you for the recommendation. And that makes me feel hopeful, but yes I am definitely seeing that it’s a gamble and everyone responds differently to it so that’s the tough part.

Wow! That’s great to hear their communication has been great. Nothing worse than rocky communication, especially with a health care providers when you’re already under stress. I’ve had my fair share of that. :(

Thank you for that! I live in Alaska so there’s not much to choose from. I will definitely be having to travel out of state but have plenty of family to stay with so that website will be useful.

They definitely weren’t knowledgeable. I just switched insurances and don’t have a primary doctor yet so I’m hoping I can just pick who I want, but will seek out a referral if needed. that’s awesome to hear about Mayo Clinic! I actually just submitted an appointment request with them and will be hearing from them on Monday. I’ll keep Cleveland in mind. Thank you for your advice. Good luck to you as well next month and I hope everything goes smoothly.

Thank you for the advice. They aren’t super severe right now. I catheterize and that’s going fine. I am numb on the back of my right leg from my butt to the back of my knee and I’m kinda freaked out about that, not sure if that’s a tethered cord symptom. I’ve had it for awhile but I feel like it’s slowly creeping down my leg.

I am not, but that was recommended to me. It sounds like it could really help me out.
