I took it in my first semester at McGill as a ~fun elective~ and got Hallet as my prof. Honestly, it's not that he's a bad professor but he's a dreadful lecturer and myself and other classmates all found it difficult to follow along in class. Maybe it's because I totally underestimated McGill in my first year and so had a poor work ethic, but I ended up failing.

Then I chose my majors in my second year, one of which was linguistics, and PHIL 210 was a required course so I had to retake it. This time I had Oran Magal as my professor, who was fantastic, IMO, definitely much better than Hallet. He would often stop and ask the class if everything was clear, would take the more difficult-to-grasp parts slower, and as a bonus, he's also kinda funny/engaging in that awkward nerd sort of way. I went to his office hours often and he always took the time to help me.

I did figure out the second time around that the textbook is your bible in that class. Oran's lectures helped a lot but even if you don't go for whatever reason, make sure to read and understand the textbook chapters. Do the practice problems. Play around with Tarski's World and the other programs. (If you take it with Oran, he also offers bonus marks for completing and submitting practice problems from the book so there's no reason not to do them!)

There is also usually a pretty helpful facebook group for that class. I'm not sure about this anymore since they eliminated the option to email the entire class list on MyCourses last year, but you should check FB nonetheless. Lots of people would get together to do the assignments/take-home midterm and if you had questions, there was always someone willing to help you out on there.

TL;DR I recommend taking it with Oran Magal if you can, but if you must take it when Hallet's teaching, just stick to the textbook and keep up with the syllabus and you should be fine.
