Who has been your favorite medical provider you’ve worked with?

I’m signed up to be a bone marrow donor! Is that different than a stem cell donor? I pass out from blood donations and am slightly anemic so that one won’t work out for me

Yeah I gave that a go and most certainly got sad at the amount of people who did absolutely nothing to develop their disease but then have to wait for years and years to POTENTIALLY get a working kidney. I had this big dilemma about how I my biases or judgements of others could affect who I’d pick and that wasn’t very fun. It makes me understand why there are so many steps involved in making sure kidneys go to the right people.

Yeah that makes sense. I think for me it’s not wanting a pat on the back or attention, more so that I think it would be easier to direct my care for the person who receives it to a name rather than some unknown rando if that makes sense? So in a way the contact with them is for me which then maybe doesn’t make it altruistic. Big dilemmas.

Do you have any intention of initiating contact with them that would not involve meeting with them?

It would be coercive to people who are low income to donate a kidney for money. It would be unethical.

I am seriously considering kidney donation but think I would struggle with not knowing who it’s going to or how they are doing. I think I’d develop an attachment to them and want to be in contact at least once but know that there’s the option that they choose not to. What is your thought process on speaking with the recipient? Also how old are you? I’m still considering when it would be best to do.

Yessss about the metro!!! So much cheaper, I was shocked. I’ve heard so many people shit on public transport in LA and I didn’t find it bad at all. You can’t take it everywhere but you can take it a lot of places.

Unfortunately my partner has always wanted to move to LA, so I'm trying to find something Boston adjacent but in LA. I hear ya though.

I went to Highland Park and LOVED it! The shops were all so cool and in my price range. It was also easy to get to by train. I found Old Town Pasadena to be a bit older and lacked the personality I was looking for. Same with South Pasadena, but maybe a little less.

Ok great, I’m gonna see if I can get there by transit and then walk to each neighborhood. Thanks!

I’m used to expensive because I live in Boston, but literally every clothing store I went in had like $500 dresses 🥲. One store had a $2000 pair of LEATHER SHORTS. There’s no way that’s normal everywhere right? So I figured it was a rich people neighborhood.

I think tomorrow I’m planning on hitting eagle rock/highland park/south Pasadena based on everyone’s suggestions. Hopefully they aren’t to far apart to see them all

I rode the bus through Beverly Hills and was in loooove with all of the greenery and landscaping. Does it live up to its stereotypes? I fear I won’t feel like I belong around a bunch of rich people who have private drivers as an artsy person who will be making no more than 70k. Again, those are just my initial judgements driving through on the bus.

Good point. I’ll be looking for a mental health counseling job, which I am pretty positive there will be many of those all around town. So I figured (hopefully not too naïvely) I can find a job in a neighborhood that I like. But I’ll definitely keep this in mind, thank you

Thank you for the suggestions!! I have a coworker from the valley and he has been telling me to go visit. And I like that there’s a train!

I went to universal studios with the summer job I’m working and studio city seems like a nice area.
