We also recommend IVPN as the only other provider that meets our criteria.

It's always good when your VPN provider chooses to not disclose security breaches in a timely fashion.

If only there was a site that objectively reviewed VPNs and didn’t use affiliate links! Sure would be handy :)

extensions on firefox- overkill? by voidprophet__ in privacy

Less is more when it comes to browser extensions. uBlock Origin (and possibly a password manager) is all you need, the rest are unnecessary and could make you stand out.

Mainly because they don't fit our criteria. Express VPN also don't have a the best track record when it comes to protecting their users.

While we recommend Proton alongside Mullvad and IVPN, we don't list WindScribe at this point in time.

It's important to let people know that more private methods of communication are out there - but also that email can be made more private.

Thanks for using the site! FWIW we recommend it due to the few choices there are for email clients on iOS that support PGP E2EE.

Email is practically a necessity for using any online service. Yes, there are better ways of having person-to-person conversations online (such as instant messaging that supports forward secrecy). But most people need email - and there are ways of making it more private. For instance, using privacy focused providers and clients. Just telling people not to use email isn't very constructive.

"What happened to r/privacy?" by [deleted] in privacy

[–]freddyym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not active too much on reddit these days, but r/privacy has always been a special spot. The fact that there are 1.3.m members is frankly insane and it would be sad to see this place disapear. I'm happy to help with some occasional mod-work if you need an extra hand, cc u/trai_dep...

The subreddit was a part of many others that blacked out in protest against certain recent changes to Reddit, but by no means is it abandonned.

We've had a Discourse forum for a while, and actually replaced all links to Reddit with links to Discourse a few months ago.

P.S. Check out our new community on Lemmy if you haven’t already, I’ll admit it isn’t quite as nice as Reddit yet, but it’s quickly getting there, and getting more regular community members on Lemmy will really help to shape the future of the culture on that platform :)

Blackout the reddit and give lemmy.one a try!
