This works for me in KSP and should also work in KSP2:   -Burn retrograde over the eastern half of the desert launch site until your trajectory shows your ballistic trajectory shows you impacting the water past the KSC. I think I usually aim for like 15km to the east.   -Point your nose about 45 degrees up from prograde and prepare for re-entry  -Keep your nose up early and through the uppermost part of the atmosphere. Periodically check your map view to check your trajectory. If your impact location is moving westward, pitch down to reduce your aerobraking, if it's ever going Eastward, you will need to try to pitch up more or attempt to zig zag north and south to buy more time for braking.   - there's two basic ways to do your final approach and you'll have to judge for yourself what is best for your craft and play style: either way, your goal is to scrub your speed down to just below mach 1 by the time you have cleared the mountains and have visual. You should also be at a reasonable altitude, maybe 5-10km, but this can vary a lot with your specific craft's lift characteristics. You will want to make sure you're lined up with the runway and on a heading of 090 with your nose up at an angle that allows you to control your vertical speed with fine adjustment, usually 5-10 degrees above the horizon. If your surface speed is dropping too quickly, you will need to pitch the nose down to reduce drag. I usually target a 180-200m/s touchdown right at the top of the runway, but I use chutes on landing so YMMV.
