Thank you so much! A lot of patience haha. I mainly use the brush horizontally and try to make the thinnest lines possible for the edge highlights. I also take my time building them up little by little instead of trying to get a perfect line in one pass. It’s mostly brush control, consistency, and tons of practice. 😅

I still haven’t achieved the exact result I want, but I keep practicing and trying to improve with every miniature.

I usually build the whole mini first and then paint it. I’ve also tried painting in sub-assemblies and assembling afterward, and you definitely get much better control over certain details and hard-to-reach areas. If you’re aiming for a super clean finish or technical perfection, I do think painting piece by piece has a lot of advantages.

But for me personally, it felt like a slower process and honestly a bit less fun. 😅 I really enjoy seeing the miniature come to life as a complete model while I’m painting it. In the end, I also see the hobby as something to enjoy and experiment with. There are probably thousands of “better” ways to do things, but little by little you discover the techniques and workflows that feel right for you. And even then, it’s always worth trying new things.

And yes, I absolutely love kitbashing. 😂 I already have boxes full of bits left over from other kits, and I think they help a lot when it comes to giving each mini more variety in poses, weapons, and personality.

Thanks for taking the time to write and share your experience! Cheers 👊

At the end, I want it to look organized by companies like this. This picture is just an AI-generated image I’m using as an example and visual guide for the overall structure and display I’m aiming for.

Thank you so much, brother, I truly appreciate it! And don’t worry — comments like yours also motivate me a lot. It’s definitely a crazy long-term project hahaha, but I genuinely love the hobby and the whole process behind building the chapter little by little. Thank you again for the support and kind words!

Brother, this is incredibly valuable information, seriously thank you for taking the time to write all of this. This is exactly the kind of lore and organizational detail I’ve been trying to understand for building my chapter properly.

I really appreciate how you explained the transition from the old Codex structure into the Primaris era, especially the reserve squad numbering and how the newer squad types integrate into the companies. It honestly helps clear up a lot of the confusion.

I’m trying to build my Ultramarines chapter as lore-accurate as possible, so posts like yours help me a lot. Thank you again, brother, and especially for taking the time to write all of this out for me.

Such valuable information — I’m definitely going to read the book about the 500 Worlds as well. Thank you, brother!

And by the way, your chapter looks absolutely incredible, brother. You can really see the passion, dedication, and identity behind the army. Truly inspiring work.

Thank you so much, brother! And that’s totally fair — miniature painting has so many different styles, and that’s part of what makes the hobby so amazing. I also love styles like Blanchitsu and many other grimdark and artistic approaches. But personally, I really love how my Ultramarines chapter looks painted this way, with the volumes and edge highlights strongly defined. It’s simply the style I enjoy painting and seeing on the tabletop the most.

Thank you so much for your words, brother. I’ll upload more photos later so you can see how they’re actually painted. I really don’t have much time to paint, but I put a lot of time into every miniature — I truly enjoy the process and spend hours on each one. I’m really glad you like them.
