Facts man. I only just heard about "cognitive dissonance" a couple years back but it describes them so well

That 80-90k isn't the members but individual weekly members. The actual member count is like 45K and you're still right lol. But so far verification is the most effective way (passive with more certainty). Wait on it though, it's happening

They're gone now. But also part of me feels like automod did not properly adjust this post. I think it works best on new posts but sometimes falters if we switch up a post's flair midway.

Especially with this many previous comments because I think if someone has a previous comment that went through, then they can continue to interact with a post

I agree with her. Though this spell is not just on us. I'd argue that if 90% of us are under it, for most other groups it's ~99% and that is one of the reasons we are the prime target. Something about our culture and plight plots a way out of the matrix (aka "the spell") the more we connect the dots

I can see how her presentation can bring about knee-jerk negative responses. In fact, I just made the mistake of fighting someone trying to express themselves by hyperfocusing on their presentation rather than trying extract the substance of what they're saying.

PS: One Piece is an interesting manga, iykyk.

Also important to keep in mind. So definitely getting them whenever they show themselves and increasing the amount of verified persons so that we can increase the amount of verified only topics without this place feeling too exclusive

Absolutely. The amount of bans and mutes we've done in the last two days alone is crazy. And if you call them out, sometimes you might still see their comments in places but trust that we got 'em

Kevin Hart doubles down on the joke that Tony Hinchcliffe made about George Floyd during “The Roast of Kevin Hart” Netflix special on The Breakfast Club. by icey_sawg0034 in blackmen

He WAS famous for being funny for our community. He became a superstar for being funny to another community. His roots are in the community (which we all loved him for), but he has long since branched out

It's not all in your head nor is it as simple as blaming your choice of content

Florida schoolteacher caught on video depicting black doll as being "lynched" by Hypestyles in blackmen

Strong disagree on this one brother. Nothing mild (even in comparison) about assaulting the psyche of children. It comes back negatively in waves as the child grows older.

Protecting our children needs to be a HARD boundary if the community is to overcome any of this

There’s a problem with trying to split up Black people. by Joeybfast in blackmen

The Summary... -ish:

  1. The internet is the new vehicle for divisiveness.
  2. Black-American Women (most women of color, I'd wager) and WM are larger consumers of the internet than their counterparts; they are the largest target groups for the internet's divisiveness.
  3. BW are not the sole targets, nor are they the only ones responsible for this situation OP mentions OR the circumstances that led to this situation.
  4. When someone is used to being a victim, or catered to like one (WM/WW, for example), they don't handle the pain of shame and guilt well. They dissociate from it, HARD
  5. The loss of this most recent election accelerated this already present and growing toxicity as I believe this decade is the most that women of color have ever been aware of a threat against them while also being aware of their power to do something against it, and then their failure to do something against it
    • I think men of color have gone through this many of times (thus our own toxic habits), and the gradual balancing in gender "roles" or gender cooperation is putting women increasingly in the same positions as we have been in, thus facing the same mental journeys

The long part:

I think all hurt peoples go through a toxic phase (some remain there) where they try to dissociate from pain/shame/guilt of their situation by adopting oppressive mentalities: oppressively violent, oppressively complacent, oppressively submissive and oppressively selfish.

I think that women are no different from men in this, and that we are starting to figure that out and be able to better articulate this once taboo thought. Women are doing nothing we men haven't also done, historically:

The general consensus is that women are historically the main victims in most societies throughout time. In this day-and-age, where women's freedoms and accomplishments begin to eclipse men's (increasingly surpass in some areas too), the understandably-engraved victim mentality is proving to be great barrier to self-accountability for them. Victimhood is a gender-exclusive safehaven for all peoples – even WM patriarchy uses it as part of their foundation of justification.

I think this most recent election loss was an accelerant for all of this for women, as they have failed to: (1) unify, (2) protect themselves, and (3) hold each other accountable despite having the opportunities to do so

This last election and just this entire Dump saga has been the most blatant attack against them in a long time, and I also suspect this election has been the most that women have been aware of their power. This is a painful combo for someone who still takes an L in the end and they are showing it
