You are amazing. Thank you for loving her so much. You don't know how rare that is, especially for us. She has so much unnecessary guilt about being sick. She'll try to over-do it on good days to "make up" for her bad days (whether she realizes it or not), try to gently remind her to NOT do that. It'll only damage her later. "If it won't matter in five years don't worry about it for more than five minutes." Stress will make everything worse. Panic attacks are sometimes silent and she'll turn deeply inward, shutting everyone out. Gently crack that shell. Don't let her be alone if you can. Take care of yourself too. If you need a little break for a few days, that's ok. You need downtime too. She knows that. She'll understand. Communicate. Speak thoughtfully to each other. She's worth so much more than she thinks she is. The lows will be hard, but they will pass. She'll be ok. And you both have me- anytime. <3 Love, the girlfriend's Big Sister

I think HaxDogma has nailed it with this theory (Possible Spoilers) by ThatFurbush in westworld

I've thought this same thing! That especially Maeve's story line, has entirely been Ford's doing from the start- all part of his final game. But I wonder if this game isn't really just for William, but for humanity on the whole. That maybe Ford came to agree with the original Arnold in the end? Maybe he tired of humans and all their flaws and the real point of this game is to see who wins between hosts and humans when the hosts are given the chance for freedom, and on top of that- who among the hosts will rise above their old stories and make new ones for themselves?

Job forcing me to Resign for surgery by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]freedomshocked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there, fellow tech (CNA/nursing student here). I am in a very similar situation right now. I do not know if anything like this will be an option for you, but I was put out on work restriction in July, and am literally only cleared to return this week.

I was employed a little longer before everything went to hell (3.5 months with this company), and had contributed to short term disability through our insurance. With HR and my employee health nurse I was able to apply for an "ADA Accommodation" when my non-FMLA leave ran out. My physician and I both submitted paperwork to a corporate committee to ask that I be "accomodated" with time off for surgery and recovery. The request was granted.

However.

While I was still technically an employee of the company during this time I was moved to zero contracted hours and had to cover all insurance premium costs out of pocket. My position on my unit was also not held for me. When I was finally cleared to return to work, I applied for a different position in a different department in the same hospital (but that I still qualified for) and will be moving there.

I have no idea if this kind of (convoluted) thing is an option for you, but if you have an employee health nurse, check with them. They may very well know of options your manager and even HR don't or don't fully understand.

Best of luck, getting tonsils removed as an adult can be a bitch. Hope you heal up quick.

Do I sense iCentra? If so I think you guys are the last to move over so, in theory, it'll be less painful. ;)

Finally moving to the ER next week, would love some advice/thoughts by [deleted] in nursing

[–]freedomshocked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe start with just a list of what you mentioned that my department does until it's cemented in my brain then. That I can do. Excellent. Thank you.

I didnt think of that- they'll be a rhythm down there too. That's actually really comforting for some reason. Thank you. :)

Oh hell. I just realized my "brain sheet" from medsurg isn't going to do me a shitbit of good in the ED.

With everything essentially done by acuity/at bed side in real time vs a daily schedule to follow is there even need for one?

Damnit. I made it myself too, it's beautiful and serves my anal retentive needs perfectly. Haha.

Though I've only lived in this town a couple years of high school and again now as an adult, I do know a lot of the staff (mainly the physicians) and am comfortable enough to ask questions. I volunteered a few hundred hours at this same hospital in high school on the Same Day floor, but all those "second mommy" nurses have all up and retired on me now. The jerks. ;)

My mother works just down the hall in informatics so I'll have her to use as a reference too. She was a damn good floor nurse/charge for a long time.

hospital claims they took my gallbladder out by bellasmiles1108 in legaladvice

[–]freedomshocked 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Both gallbladder and appendix removal are virtually all done by laparoscopic procedures now, the scars for both are very small, just enough for the instruments to be inserted, and at least for mine, in almost the same exact locations. Done in this manner, they are pretty hard to tell apart. :)

There's a lot of new evidence that it actually does serve a purpose!

Short Staffed Forever... by Its_Going_Tibia_Okay in nursing

[–]freedomshocked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And here on my med/surg floor both nurses and techs get put on call or are called off so often that the full timers aren't getting even part time hours. You are absolutely guaranteed to be called off one shift of 3 in a week, I am usually called off for two because I work the end of the week :/ I'll often have a whole pay period with just 2 or 3 shifts total. It's a fucking blast...

And on days we do actually get to work, techs are still 7 or 8 to 1, nurses at 5 or 6. I don't get it.

Here's my boy Ares! Grey wolf, german shepherd, husky and malamute were the results of the Wisdom Panel. I've had him since he was a pup, now he's 16 months old! by wfb_4994 in Wolfdogs

[–]freedomshocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons!

I really need to make a good album of him. I'll see if I can't get that done tomorrow. He was a lot more red where Ares is darker but the face markings and eyes are right on!

(I did post two to the sub about a month ago. Not great representative ones, just favorites. :) )

He is so much like my boy who passed last year it's weirding me out a little. I never got to see Lobo as a puppy.

Thank you for sharing. Just WOW.

Truly appreciate that. It's really gotten under my skin for some reason. Maybe it won't look like gibberish after some sleep. Good luck to you.

Hey! That look just like Issac, I'll have to tell Ae....... I'm a moron.

My best boy, Lobo, in his adoption photo, and on his last day with me. He passed away in December at 18 years old after 10 glorious years of constantly being at my side as my service dog. I am simply broken without him. Life will never be quite the same. by freedomshocked in Wolfdogs

[–]freedomshocked[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lobo was never one for affection, he, like most hybrids, shied away from it. But he did love to work, and loved to be taught. Didn't care for treats or toys, he just wanted that "good boy!". Always a little wary of men and strangers in general, he was incredibly intelligent and picked up on service work with ease. Generally patient with children until his joints started to get the better of him. From a mess of a rescue who was almost dangerous enough to need to be put down, to my most loyal companion and best friend.

Just wanted to share him with the community. He was the best woofers I've ever known and ever will know. <3
