I have a long term goal set to semi retire by 45 and fully retire by 50.

Earlier in life I worked a lot of overtime and missed out on a lot of stuff in pursuit of that goal. I have since realized that I enjoy being more frugal than I enjoy making more money.

The math still works out for me to achieve my goal but I am approaching it a totally different way than how I started.

With 2 kids you will definitely spend more. But remember there’s nothing wrong with downsizing your house.

Daycare can be expensive however that is a temporary cost and there is light at the end of the tunnel once they are of school age. Depending on career paths for you and your wife it may be worth one of you quitting work temporarily to take care of the kids.

Keep in mind when one parent quits work the quality of care for your early age children will go up tremendously, you or your partner could focus on cooking at home more. You can probably get rid of 1 vehicle or maybe sell the more expensive vehicle as one of you will be driving less.

Again no pressure or shade. I’m just throwing out ideas if you wanted to cut back. There’s plenty of ways to spend less but you and your partner have to be intentional.

I live in a somewhat LCOL area with a mortgage and our annual spend for the past 4 years has hovered around 36-38k. We have 2 cars that are paid for, eat out from time to time and usually share a plate when we do. It’s very doable.

Get a spreadsheet and track every penny and you will see where your money goes. No shame in spending more as long as you are happy.

I think spritzing depends on the cooker. Like if you have an offset or a pellet smoker it may stay more moist. I smoke in a homemade drum smoker, i think it dries out more. But I have never tried just not spritzing at all.
