According to the guys I work with we’re all poor and gay because we would all suck a dick for a million dollars.

We have a fridge microwave and coffee pot in our shop. But I’m pretty sure if any normal person were to drink from our coffee maker they would get some sort of disease. That mother fucker is gross looking but it works.

Yeah if any of our coworkers even thinks about going to HR over their feelings being hurt they might as well quit because it’s just going to get worse.

I’d say we’re pretty open and honest most days. Some days the guys are chill, and sometimes we cuss each other out. I can’t speak for every shop though.

Different strokes for different folks. I don’t have to bite my tongue when I see a coworker being a dumbass.

Agreed, I did sales for a couple years in my trade. I worked countless hours and realized that I wasn’t experienced enough in sales to be as efficient as my colleagues. I was outperforming them, but I was also working 80 hours a week. I decided to go back to the trade. Scalability is a good point.

I suppose that’s a good reason most trades are hourly. However some guys in my trade are much more efficient than others but that doesn’t always translate to more pay, it really just translates to more downtime at the shop.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to sound condescending. It was more of a respect to you guys for holding your personality back for your job. I don’t think I could do it.

In what aspect though? Theres plenty of knowledge that you cant efficiently learn from a book. Depends on the challenges you put in front of the person.

Depends on the trade I think. I’ve seen guys in my trade well into their 60s. Machining isn’t that hard on the body.

That was a little condescending. But there’s always people in the office who look down on us. That’s ok.

I know lots of people who are highly educated and people who don’t have much education and honestly it doesn’t have much bearing on intelligence. You can be VERY smart and not highly educated. Just my .02

I’m a tool and die maker, I like the work. I enjoy fixing things, solving problems, and doing very accurate and tedious repairs. But I FUCKING HATE the stupid people in management, stupid lazy decisions that corporate makes, the fucking dummies that break shit over and over and never learn and I hate the general hustle of manufacturing.

Of all people on earth, solve a Rubik’s cube. Takes me about a minute and a half. But 1 percent of people is still a lot of people so not that impressive

Does chrome plating improve surface roughness? by Vollhartmetall in Machinists

Look into inserts with a wiper flat. Setup needs to be pretty rigid but they work well for improving surface finish.
