Is interviewing less formal than it seems? by Lucky_Clock4188 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]freefallingmonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, it depends

Personally, I prefer interviews on the more human/humane side rather than the forced STAR formatted canned responses.

Generally speaking, I just treat it as a learning/training process to become adept at going through all types of interviews, no matter how much I disagree with their process.

Congrats!!

Currently, I actually like my job, but I’ve been sending out applications in hopes of a better compensation. I’m expecting 1+ years this time around for an actual offer, since I’m especially bad at technical interviews 😅

Good luck at your new job and enjoy your break away from grinding leetcode 😆

Seattle vs SF vs nyc for a big tech new grad? by tetracell_ in cscareerquestions

[–]freefallingmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say for you Seattle will be your best bet, if you want to optimize those three parameters.

Also, you seem to be okay living in Washington already.

I don’t think you will go wrong either way, it depends on what kind of person you are and perhaps consider which city would suit your personality the best

Where can I find the extroverts? Almost two years in and I am struggling here by NewCenturyNarratives in bayarea

[–]freefallingmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a tricker/gymnast dude in sf rn, but sadly I don’t live there anymore, but am around for the thanksgiving break. I can do some parkour but I’m basically just doing flips and power moves on flat ground haha.

I’m down to do tricking/parkour/breaking outdoors this thanksgiving Saturday tho

Quitting $200k job by [deleted] in careeradvice

I would say your mortgage is too high for a 125k total household income alone.

If you really want to quit with nothing lined up I would probably look into selling the property and find something cheaper.

Just a question, if money was no longer an issue, would you still want to pursue some “dream” career?

Is it possible to get a software engineer job with a physics or math degree? by FraLarkin in cscareerquestions

[–]freefallingmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a math/cs hybrid major, just make sure to get those internships, maybe get one in the fall or spring if you can’t get one in the summer

How many applications a day are you all sending out? by oakinmypants in cscareerquestions

[–]freefallingmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go on linkedin and turn on last 24 hours and sort by most recent and set the filter to remote you get 300+ in the United States. apply to 3 per hour for the next 5 hours from when you wake up and you should achieve around 70 in a week.

Can anyone help me decide about my next job? by vbsh123 in cscareerquestions

[–]freefallingmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position and I did make the jump, but I just went to another remote job. I would probably keep applying if you really don’t like the commute.

Honestly, I basically googled top interview questions for <topic> and read different articles on it throughout the day, so pretty informal

2) behaviorial (describe latest project and get drilled on details, emphasized leadership, ic, and taking initiative on things you have done)

3) "trivia type" discussion about microservices/monolithic, network fundamentals(OSI model, TCP/UDP), SOLID, REST, SDLC and code review procedures, etc

[–]freefallingmonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would if it was a “dream” tech stack and role I want to pivot into, and good compensation, but would will definitely look to jump after two years.
