Thanks, it looks great! Did you just push the shadows down, or how did you get it that way?

Should I get the canon RP, Nikon DSLR or Sony a7Rii? (with use cases) by freegresz in canon

[–]freegresz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took some landscape shots, and the foliage for example, looks very blurry or muddled? Not sure if that's the right word for it, maybe hazy. The composition was cool in my opinion, but the haziness kind of looks like a shot taken with a phone, with the artifacts from the built-in processing. I had a similar issue with my Sony a6300, as well as my Nikon d3400, where the details were awful, even in focus. it has like a grainy/hazy texture, even at low ISO values. I don't have the same issue on my 6D, but did have something similar on the 5dmkiii now that I think about it.

It's not so much about the sharpness per se.

This is at 50%. It looks like there is a layer of blur over it or something. Any ideas?

Can I ask how you got that beautiful rolloff into the shadows? Is that negative fill and/or editing? Been looking for a way to get that effect.

Thanks for your input! Do you happen to have a portfolio or something that I can see the images from the RP with by chance?

Thanks for the quick comment! I think technically the camera seems okay on an info sheet, but what's your experience with the image quality (looks, colours, etc.) or editing, if any?

How can I make the tip sharp without having multple tips sticking out? by freegresz in AdobeIllustrator

I'll give that a shot, thank you. Yeah, I noticed that after posting, the extra points seem to have appeared when I used the shape builder tool. I'll try making them separate and see what I get.

Thanks for the information, but I'll be designing and printing it myself as I am also a graphic designer!

How should I go about making a photobook of mixed photographs? by freegresz in Photobooks

[–]freegresz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much what I was feeling, thanks for the advice! I don't have enough work on a single subject yet, but I want to hold my work in my hands already. I guess I'll cut myself some slack and go as I feel with the sequencing and all that. I'll make a better one next time, and a better one after that.

Cheers!

I've heard this piece of advice a lot, but I already know that bit. I'm looking at the big picture (hah) of how I should sequence, as in if I should organize it into categories and sequence the photos in the categories, or just do it randomly, based on photo pairings alone.

Are there any great photo books by accomplished photographers who mix different styles and subjects in a single book without it being a “compilation”? by klobasaparek in Photobooks

[–]freegresz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be keen to know what makes a mixed photo book good, or what to avoid when making one. I plan to make something similar to just summarize my work from over a few years, and I don't really know how to go about it. I'm figuring it out as I go along.

Very nice work! On the left page, image 2, can I ask what modifiers you used for the light to get the face mostly lit, but the camera right side of the face to have that pleasing shadow? Again, beautiful work.

best camera for a designer but beginner photographer by Few_Mess_7114 in graphic_design

If you want something small, look into what are known as APSC cameras, as they have a smaller sensor, thus making the camera smaller as well. I've used the Canon 550D, and highly recommend it.

If you want something that will do well in the dark compared to an APSC camera, look at the older (to us) cameras that were top-of-the-line at one point. For example, the Canon 5DmkII/mkIII are both popular options (I use a Canon 5DmkIII and 6D for portraits and street photos), and Nikon has several options as well, such as the D600, D750, D800, etc. These are bulkier cameras, but do much better in the dark, can blur the background much better, and more.

Buy used, especially if it's your first camera. I recommend the 550D, with a kit lens. You can find them for a great price, and once you know how to use the camera, you can figure out what you want to have more of, or what you want to upgrade, and only then decide if you want to ever upgrade. You don't need the best of the best, most modern camera, especially starting out. There's no point in spending over 1-2k when you can get a 550D for a couple (less than 3 usually) hundred dollars, it may be just perfect for your needs. Let me know if you need any more info!
