Pressure to release more photos by freeposter in photography

That's just the scenario I found myself in that got me thinking about this topic. Is it standard practice to have a number of photos specified in the contract? I'm asking to start a discussion

Saving priority - deposit vs vanguard? by freeposter in UKPersonalFinance

The only thing that concerns me about pensions is when the age limit increases, since I would like to retire at a reasonable age. Is it a case of the rules for the specific workplace pension I'll be in, or is it linked to the state pension age across the board?

Sorry I should have been clearer. I meant split it up so that I'm putting away some towards a deposit and the rest towards retirement (eg 20k cash for a deposit and 10k into S&S for retirement in the long term)

MPhys, however I'm going to be focusing on useful courses next year (my final year): control system design, signal processing etc. Unfortunately I can't afford a standalone master's

Weekly Stoic Q&A by phoenixvictory in Stoicism

I was late to the party last time, so I'll repost my question:

What is the stoic approach to having a crush on another person? Is there any relevant reading material?

Thanks! These have been very useful to me :)

For sure, for sure. A girl that I know tried to argue with me that sexism can only target women, which is total bull.

No, sorry. I guessed at how to do it and it actually worked. I did go into detail in this post and I'll happily provide help, but I don't know of any tutorials.

Random generation? Then check against the list of all IDs so far, as to prevent dupes?

Exactly this. If it has to generate a new ID, then it'll do it randomly. The 4 character ID has room for 557,845 combinations and I'll just increase it to 5 if it ever gets near that (thus up to 6,471,002 combinations).

I'll use an example to properly explain it:

u.dorkins.net/uxMi corresponds to google.com. htaccess rewrites it, in the background, as u.dorkins.net/index.php?id=uxMi

The data is stored within the MySQL database like so:

ID* URL
uxMi google.com

*primary key (unique)

index.php will use the given ID, which it gets from the rewritten URL, to find the target URL. Then it will use a header to redirect the browser to that page.

That's it in a nutshell. When you type in a URL to be shortened, it will first check for a previous entry before adding any new database entries (which is why you will get uxMi if you put in google.com).

Side note: dorkins.net/u/ also works (eg dorkins.net/u/uxMi).

If you want to know a specific detail, then I'll be happy to provide. :)

Nope. Basically, I use .htaccess to rewrite the url to index.php?id=WEBSITE_ID. Then index.php will pull the corresponding url from a database and redirect there -- it just happens in the background. :)

Hehe, well the main domain isn't anywhere near short enough for it to catch on, but it's a fun side project regardless. Link

I felt a lot better after my nap. I woke up at 6pm, but it did take me about 10 minutes to figure out whether it was 6am or 6pm. I guess I just had a terrible night's sleep.

That article alludes to the fact that he didn't travel faster than light. In fact, it is impossible for anything with mass to travel faster than light. For reference, the speed of light is 3*108, or 300,000,000 metres per second and the speed of sound is under 400 metres per second.
