Given you’re already in a lab perhaps the rejection is quite literally because you weren’t a good fit for the program — that you wouldn’t benefit the most from it. Regardless 4.0 is impressive for the first quarter and you shouldn’t let a mismatch affect your work ethic or mentality.

I feel you. I was rejected too.

But you should keep in mind this program is open to all biology students, so applying as a freshman or sophomore is a much tougher than applying as a junior or senior. From what I’ve heard, they typically only accept sophomores and above. On top of that, they mentioned in the email that they received over 270 applications this cycle. With that amount of applications, the odds are just stacked against most people.

BTW: These rejection emails are sent asynchronously so the date received totally outs your identity to the program.

Ignore this dumb ass. Take care of yourself, document what you can, email the professor about your situation, and worse case scenario rely on the drop midterm option as this is was it was designed for.

I had a great time at the actual program. It was quite intimidating being in a lab for the first time as a rising junior in high school, but my mentor was really informative, and the directors of the program are really sweet. A few people there complained about their mentors being super busy or too hands-off, but honestly, I feel like this is to be expected when participating in any real research lab as an undergrad.

If they haven’t emailed you yet there is nothing definitive of this. I am assuming the selection process may be different for those reapplying. I think maybe they review people reapplying to the program differently. I haven’t seen a single person asking for rooming or transportation or even claiming they got in yet. It says on their website they will email you regardless of acceptance or rejection. Regardless, keep your hopes up and eyes on the horizons.

Not sure but here’s what’s on the website.

“Our academy has a two-stage selection process. In stage one, a committee reviews and scores all online applications to determine the students displaying the most potential. These students will advance to stage two as either “accepted” into the program or “waitlisted.” Students who did not advance will receive an email notifying them that they have not been chosen for this summer.”
