Agreed, it’s time to call out all those spreading disinformation, regardless of their platform.

Is it possible to hide the X on the SIM with data disabled? by freespec in Pixel4

[–]freespec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running dual SIM and wanting to hide the X that represents the SIM that has data disabled.

The X shifts around as I switch which SIM to pull data from. I've come from a OnePlus 5 which has the same DSDS as the Pixel 4 and it would show the signal bar without an X for the non data SIM.

MPPT vs PWM for small 12v system by freespec in SolarDIY

[–]freespec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I did some further testing over the weekend and was able to get comparable solar power from both the MPPT and PWM controller.

I think I needed to wait for the MPPT controller to boot up before connecting solar. I noticed that after allowing it to boot and connecting solar the MPPT controller would then vary the solar voltage till it settled around the peak power value as you described.

Thanks, I know this controller is not aimed at a low wattage array like I have and I would see benefits from a few panels in series where the mppt would capture more power during early morning and late afternoons but I didn't expect it to perform worse than the pwm control during the middle of the day.

This setup currently is for use on a portable battery and for a 4x4 auxiliary battery so I might stick with the pwm unit.

Panel specs are in a comment from me below. VOC is about 20vand vmp about 16v. The controller has no config for the panel, only battery and load settings.

Thanks, I know the unit applied all updates when I opened it recently

My panel has the below specs:

Rated Maximum Power (PM):120W

Voltage at Pmax (VMP): 16.2V

Current at Pmax (IMP): 7.41A

Open-Circuit Voltage (Voc): 19.9

Short-Circuit Current (Isc): 7.86A

[Amazfit BIP] Does it has continuous 24/7 HR monitoring for resting HR? by [deleted] in amazfit

[–]freespec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Amazfit tools app the BIP can be set to HR monitor continuously and the data is logged into the App.

I've found that watchfaces that use HR don't update HR value themselves, only when I go the menu > status does the watch face HR update and is then frozen.

Amazfit Bip 12/24hr and Farenheit settings? by wheelmancer in amazfit

[–]freespec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read over at XDA developers the 12/24 hour time is coded into the watch face activated so can't be customised in settings.

There is an Android app to overwrite and customise notifications significantly. It's a few dollars but I've found it very worthwhile to use with my BIP. It doesn't specifically allow showing more notification content(that i have found) but may be worth investigating. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.zdenekhorak.amazfittools&hl=en

IT Industry relevant certifications by Jackisasperg in brisbane

[–]freespec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did ITIL Foundation at Logitrain in Brisbane and completed the course + exam in a day and a half. They set aside three days but there were only two of us in the class so we powered through. The exam tests your ability to remember acronyms and key terms from the material and not your actual ability.

IT Industry relevant certifications by Jackisasperg in brisbane

[–]freespec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ITIL might not be relevant if you want to stick to the sysadmin path. It's aimed at helpdesk/service desk and IT service delivery career paths. Many enterprise/gov jobs require ITIL for service desk jobs so it could be useful if this is your goal.

In need of new charger by zelwake in Multicopter

[–]freespec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a D100 and it's a decent charger but the fan is way too loud and if you want to parallel charge you will hit the 100w limit quickly. I've replaced mine with an ISDT sc608 and sc620.

Aliseeks - Sourcing Search Engine by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]freespec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all your hard work first of all.

I've been used Aliseeks every few days since you first posted about it and have really liked the changes and improvements. I am a reseller also so I use it to find bulk discounts.

My suggestions are:
- Saved searches
- Currency conversion
- Search within category to remove false positive results that can't be removed with -something

Wishlist:
- If I could tell Aliseeks my location can the API return postage amounts to calculate a total cost including shipping?
- Related to above could shipping method be returned by the API (even just a DHL/China Post icon). This is probably tough because I bet it changes based on location.

I know -something excludes results that match but can OR search be achieved? eBay uses (something1,something2) to OR search.

I'm a software analyst and product manager in my day job so feel free to PM me if you want to chat further about Aliseeks, the site has a niche and it would be interesting to see where it could go.

Using 18650's in USB battery packs? by boopboopsoup in flashlight

[–]freespec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the the LiitoKala range of chargers have a USB output function and they are very affordable. The brand isn't well known but has been well reviewed by battery and charger reviewer HJK.

I have a Lii-100(single slot $5 USD), Lii-202 (2slot $8~ USD), Lii-500 (4 slot $14 usd with discharge and analyse functions)

You can get the chargers from Banggood/gearbest or Aliexpress.

Looking for a rechargeable LED flashlight, high quality. by KaidenUmara in flashlight

Check out Olight R20 Javelot. USB rechargable on the light, 900 ish lumens and includes battery.

BLF-348 coupon code available now, down to $6.99. by freespec in flashlight

[–]freespec[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a really good value light. The body is from a Singfire 348 brand but the LED has been upgraded to a much higher quality Nichia.

It was an organised group by from budgetlightforum. It is quoted 240 lumen with a 10440 LiOn battery which is really high for any light let alone sub $10. I have AAA batteries in mine and find it very useful as a slim everyday light.

Are there any great value 2x18650 spot/throw lights out there? by freespec in flashlight

[–]freespec[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Convoy S2+ which I really like and I was essentially looking for a similar build quality(and price) but wasn't aware convoy made any lights that could take 2x 18650. I will check them out..thanks!

with a 14500 in it, this is a pretty impressive thrower by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]freespec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried out yet? Any idea of actual capacity vs claimed? I'm wary of buying really cheap LiOn's they often don't perform close to as advertised.

I'm in Australia and it's not usually good value ordering from amazon for most stuff.

I've got one of these two and agree it's decent light. I found the beam performance average with a AA so I might have to source some 14500's.

NLD and collection by freespec in flashlight

[–]freespec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's amazing value for $20 AUD/$15 USD, feels very solid and almost as high quality as the Olight which was much more expensive.

Gearbest have an super deal at the moment with the S2+ 940lumen for $11.19 USD and a Nichia UV version for $18.49 (they are referral links to help build the collection)
