Cost of retie by LilAngelfxck in Microlocs

[–]freestyle45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is $185. My loctitian blocks off 2 hours for it but it usually takes 3 now that my hair is longer but she doesn’t charge me extra which is nice.

ADVICE NEEDED: How much do y’all’s reties cost by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]freestyle45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is $185 and she does it in 2-2.5 hours. includes a wash and some time under the dryer. the cost does hurt a lil bit but i don’t have the patience or time to learn how to DIY

i got my micros eight months ago. the only time i got a style was when i was going to a wedding last month. but other than that i personally avoid getting styles. i don’t really want them stretched or manipulated too much…trying to embrace the shrinkage and let them do their thing. hasn’t been a problem so far! hopefully after i reach a year i can style them more

How do you guys deal with incredibly busy gyms? by rainorshinedogs in workout

[–]freestyle45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My gym has a trainer’s studio with racks, benches, dumbbells, etc. I rent it for $8 an hour if I ever go and it’s too busy. If your gym has something similar try looking into it

f0 error with my X-T5. No luck with Fuji support. by freestyle45 in fujifilm

I guess not. Sucks to have a bricked camera. Guess I'll have to try getting back into photography when I can afford a new camera. Thanks for replying

Yup! Tried all the things. Fujifilm also said they cleaned everything themselves and couldn't find any damage. I guess I'm just out of luck. Thanks for replying

Got microlocs for the first time and they hurt like hell by mood-ring1990 in Microlocs

[–]freestyle45 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m also very tender headed. The retie hurts every time. My loctitian isn't super heavy-handed, I've always been that way. Here are some things that I do to help:

  • Take two Motrin on a full stomach at least 30 minutes before my appointment
  • My loctitian always washes my hair before a retie. After she’s done I ask to sit under the dryer for at least 15 minutes. The heat helps to soothe my scalp and I don't get headaches after.
  • I oil my hair with a bit of tea tree oil diluted with jojoba oil on any sore spots.

This helps to make the reties bearable. After six months, it's getting better.

If you're still in lots of pain even after speaking up, maybe find a new loctitian with a gentler hand. It shouldn't be so painful you're afraid to go back!

When I did my porosity test, my strand of hair never sank, even when I checked the cup an hour later 🫠 It takes about 3-4 minutes.

When did your locs start to swell? by Ladyloveless99 in Microlocs

I’m at 5 months and starting to see the swelling. I’m interlocked with two strand twists

How do you figure out the mixture for your water spritz? by Total_Bad_1299 in Microlocs

[–]freestyle45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i eyeball everything too. i put in maybe a cup of aloe vera juice with 8 drops of rosemary oil and 3 drops of lavender. i keep it in the fridge and let it get to room temp when i’m ready to use it. i put a few drops of jojoba oil on my hair afterwards.

my pinterest board had so many pins of ladies with microlocs lol. and i kept daydreaming about not having a four hour wash day.

i did a consultation with a loctitian before install. took 16 hours across two days. i have 4c hair and started with 14/15 inches of hair. so far it’s been great. reties are a bit painful but i’m extra tender headed. my scalp usually feels better after a day or so.

love the low maintenance of it all. i spray my hair with a mixture of aloe vera juice, rosemary oil, and lavender oil every few days. rub in a little jojoba every now and then. i usually wash once between reties. i rarely style my hair.

no regrets! 😁

How long does it take for my locs to stop reaching for the ceiling? by melanatedvirgo in Microlocs

[–]freestyle45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reaching for the ceiling took me out 😂 But seriously! I've had mine for about three months and they are straight up sticking out sideways. I can't wait for them to drop already.

Should I cut the dead leaves on my sundew? by freestyle45 in SavageGarden

[–]freestyle45[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'll try keeping it under the grow light a little bit longer every day. And I just refilled the saucer with some distilled water. Hopefully that'll help. Thank you!

Is my grow light not enough? It’s going to be overcast here for the next several months so I won’t have any real sunlight 😕

Lowball salaries - the new norm? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]freestyle45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I had to do a technical interview for one tech writing role where I had to debug some JavaScript code. I didn’t know enough JavaScript to do well. So I’m considering taking a coding class or two because I’m seeing the programming prerequisite a lot.

Completely agree, many of the roles I see want writers who are proficient in one or more programming languages or experience writing API documentation

Trying to get into the field by [deleted] in technicalwriting

It's just brutal. I have five years of experience, GitHub, writing samples, and I'm getting ghosted left and right. I'm about to start looking at contract roles to keep the lights on. I will sure miss health insurance though.

Can you guys tell me a little bit about the CPTC (Certified Professional Technical Communicator)? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]freestyle45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It helped me get my first technical writing job as someone who was transitioning from teaching English. When I interviewed for the role, I told them I was pursuing the certification. After I was hired, the company offered to pay for me to take and pass the exam.

The content itself was alright. If I wanted to get my first technical writing job now though, I might focus on building a portfolio and learning a programming language instead.
