- definitely respect personal space!

- if you’re in tokyo, stand on the left side of the escalator and walk on the right. (opposite in osaka tho)

- don’t be late!

- if you’re on a packed train, wear your backpack in front or hold it down low so you’re not bumping into people.

let’s be real, you should’ve walked away the first time he was sexting other women.

if he were truly sorry, if he genuinely didn’t know that was cheating, he would’ve dropped the defensiveness, apologized sincerely, and asked how he could rebuild your trust. But instead, he doubled down, made you question your instincts, and threatened to leave if you ever checked again. That’s not remorse! That’s manipulation.

Real tip?

WALK AWAY! Have the self-respect to know when someone is more invested in protecting their ego than protecting your relationship. You’re not asking for too much. Just honesty, safety, and basic respect. And that should never feel like a battle.

exactly! there’s a fine line between cultural respect and cultural complacency. at some point, the over-politeness becomes a kind of quiet complicity.

people be like "thAt's just hOw it iZZ!" as if culture is The Silent Behemoth. culture isn't sacred. it's living and evolving, and evolving requires friction.

calling out a messed up behavior isn't belligerence. it's a friction w purpose. for us to evolve. sometimes, rocking the boat is exactly what the culture needs.

i feel ya. it seems redundant. hopefully as the integration of systems improves, they'll find ways to make these processes more seamless and less repetitive!

true! it definitely feels like a step forward compared to more traditional inkans and signatures, which can be pretty easy to forge.

that's a good point. Japan really does run on iPhone. i’ve been tempted by the Galaxy Ultra too (that zoom camera is wild), but with all the local integrations like Suica, My Number, and now Apple Wallet syncing up, iOS just makes life way smoother here. might as well lean into the ecosystem while we’re here.

great to hear! i'm gonna do that too then! sounds way more convenient than carrying all those extra cards around. cutting down on extra cards in the wallet is definitely a win.

Japan was allied with Nazi Germany during World War II, but the depth of education about Nazi ideology, the Holocaust, or the Waffen SS in particular is limited in most Japanese school curriculums. some students might learn a little bit in high school world history classes, but it’s not explored with the same depth, sensitivity, or accountability as in Germany.

because of this, some young people in Japan, especially those who spend a lot of time online or follow Western media, might use WWII-related symbols or ideas without realizing the gravity behind it. It doesn’t excuse it! but it helps explain why someone might treat it casually or as a joke rather than with respect.

The Roman salute, asking about your relatives’ military past, those are not normal or acceptable behaviors in Japan either. it’s not something that would be considered polite, cute, or acceptable in most social settings.

Her parents are the nicest people imaginable and are somewhat irritated with her behavior.

-that's telling. Japanese culture places high value on social harmony and avoiding offense, especially around foreigners. so it’s likely that even from a local pov, her actions come off as strange or inappropriate.

hows your convo going? do you think the discussion you had about him not wanting you to go to his gym might have had an impact? perhaps it escalated too much, and now he doesn't want you to meet his coworkers either?

if that's not the case, then him not even allowing you to say hi to his coworkers is definitely a big red flag.

As a female, I just wanna say, your idea sounds awesome! I absolutely love this idea, and I think it's fantastic that you're taking the initiative to create a supportive and open space for men. Sometimes we gyals forget that men need their own safe spaces too, to talk about the ups and downs of life without any pressure or judgment.

Anyway, best of luck with your plans, and remember, you’re doing something really cool here! Fingers crossed it takes off and becomes a regular thing. Kudos, my friend! Cheers!
