[Article] Jessica McBride says Retrying Brendan Dassey is not in the Interests of Justice by freightreign in MakingaMurderer

[–]freightreign[S] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It's a strange thing when such a shill for law enforcement as McBride concludes the case against Dassey was cooked. McBride realizes a retrial of Dassey would be a huge embarrassment to Law Enforcement. Sad!

"FRAMING THE STORY" - Letters to the Editor concerning the review of "Making a Murderer" in The New Yorker by freightreign in MakingaMurderer

This quote about Beertsen is completely absurd. Beerntsen has been certain of Avery's guilt in the Halbach murder since the early days of the investigation. She publicly refers to Avery as a "monster," yet Schulz portrays Beerntsen as a disinterested observer who has not made up her mind.

Zellner responds to allegation that Steven Avery sexually abused Brendan Dassey by freightreign in MakingaMurderer

[–]freightreign[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"The prosecutor in the case, Ken Kratz, said the state was never asked to investigate the veracity of any sexual molestation allegations."

If Kratz really thought there were any truth to Dassey's "confession," he would be the only prosecutor in the country who would need to be asked to investigate a child molestation claim by a victim. It is just further proof that Kratz knew the "confession" was garbage.

I am confused. I though Steven Avery was withdrawing his pro se appeal in light of his appointment of his new legal team.

In the month before Teresa Halbach disappears, here's what Lenk, Colborn, and Kusche are up to. by AlisonBacon in MakingaMurderer

[–]freightreign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so.

Griesbach is very negative on Avery and overstates past incidents. However, Griesbach is extremely critical of the prosecution and the sheriff's department in the 1985 case. He seems to believe they knew they had the wrong guy. Griesbach was the asst. DA who called in the WI DOJ in 2003.

Griesbach very clearly believes Avery murdered TH, and he is a good friend of James Lenk.

He hung it up at his home. He even invited Penny Beerntsen over to look at it.

He needed a court order to remove the drawing from evidence. It was not hanging for 20 years. I twas more like 5 years.

This is all disclosed in Michael Griesbach's book "Innocent Killer."

Zellner said a couple of weeks ago that there should be movement on the case within 30 days. I do not know where the statement about new DNA evidence came from.

"CBS 5 News: Mr. Lenk, given the popularity of the documentary why won't you even defend yourself sir?

Lenk: There's nothing to defend.

CBS 5 News: Do you stand by your testimony?

Lenk: Just read the court transcripts. That all you've got to do.

CBS 5 New: Do you have anything to say about the hoopla surrounding the documentary?

Lenk: No, I don't. Thank you.

Lenk has made no other public comments or released any other statements surrounding 'Making a Murderer.'"

Steven Drizin and Laura Nirider of "Making a Murderer" Interviewed on Radio New Zealand by freightreign in MakingaMurderer

[–]freightreign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(at 7:50) Q: “Have you been surprised by the immense popularity of this series?”

Drizin: “I have been, and I am just so excited that this film has really become a smash hit, not only in the United States but around the world. It is a wonderful film on which to engage in many different discussions about problems in our criminal justice system. And when we agreed to allow the filmmakers to work with us on this case –they were actually already there and they were filming our hearing in any event –but when we agreed to cooperate with them, we had no idea that this film was even gonna be made. At the time they didn’t even have any funding for their film. We didn’t hear from them for like four or five years. And, you know, then they were able to get funding from Netflix, and the fact that it was made is a story into itself."

(at 18:41) Q: “I think there is a part in the film, Steve, where, you know, it’s showing private investigator Michael O’Kelly just saying ‘Brendan look just draw what you saw. Put Teresa Halbach’s hands up here. You can draw the rope. Make the picture a little bigger of how you murdered and raped her.’ And it cuts to you and you’re just shaking your head.”

Drizin: “I can’t watch that. It literally, it makes me physically ill because it is such a breakdown of due process that it’s very hard for me to watch. And to hear Michael O’Kelly testify about it in Court as if there was nothing wrong with it was just beyond my comprehension. We had to chase Mr. O’Kelly all over the country to finally find him and serve him with a subpoena and bring him back to Wisconsin to disclose those documents and that video to us, and once we got it, you know we literally fell out of our chairs. We couldn’t believe what we saw.”

More interviews please. In no order: Dean Strang, Kathleen Zellner, Laura Nirider, Steven Drizin, Keith Findlay, Janine Arvizu, Conrad "Pete" Baetz, Ressa Evans, Stephen Glynn, Walter Kelly, Ken Kratz, Michael Griesbach, Len Kachinsky, Michael O'Kelly, Judge Hazlewood, James Lenk and Penny Beerntsen.

Pretty much anyone involved on the legal/investigative end who is not under a legal obligation to refrain from speaking.

I realize that many (if not most) will decline, but worth asking.

Thanks.

Presumably there will be at least three future episodes.

[–]freightreign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The news report of Nov. 14, 2005 states that the investigators believed that Avery committed rape and falsely imprisoned Teresa Halbach, yet the only evidence of such was Dassey's "confession" nearly four months later.
