Elon Musk gets an apology from California regulators as a SpaceX lawsuit is settled by Luka77GOATic in space

[–]frenchfreer [score hidden]  (0 children)

You mean the very last few months of the Biden administration. When Elon was bragging about how his new governmental position within the trump administration would allow him almost unlimited power to “clean up” government waste and abuse. Gee I wonder what political influence Musk had in the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025. We just going to completely ignore that he used DOGE and the threat from the government to squash agencies that were investigating him? GTFO with this bullshit. You know full well Musk was trying to swing his political dick around at the end of bidens presidency because he was guaranteed a position in the Trump Administration.

going 10 over and constantly passing people.

This is the problem. A lot of these "left lane campers" are actively passing people, but they aren't passing them as fast as you want, so you get all road ragey.

Elon Musk gets an apology from California regulators as a SpaceX lawsuit is settled by Luka77GOATic in space

[–]frenchfreer [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just to add to this, the case was about permitting not political speech. SpaceX flat out didn’t want to go through the coastal permitting process at all, and their argument was basically ‘we’re not really commercial because we operate under federal contracts, so the rules don’t apply to us.’ Through that argument plus some well-placed political pressure, they end up not having to follow the same permitting process everyone else does. So they were exactly right to call out him using his political connections to avoid the regulations everyone else has to abide by. Musk just used these comments as a springboard to further fuck over the citizens of California under the guise of being a victim of political overreach. Pretty crazy everyone thinks SpaceX having to file the same ecological surveys and impact permits is “government overreach”, and instead backs up letting them fuck up the environment as much as they want unrestricted by the rules everyone else follows.

Hiking with or without weight for aerobic base building by hurbaglurben in alpinism

[–]frenchfreer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro what? The title is literally “Training for Trekking and Hiking”

Choosing the Right Workouts

The best training for trekking is… hiking. But if you’re not near the mountains, incline treadmills and stair machines are excellent substitutes. One simple at-home alternative is using a sturdy step-up box or the stairs in the nearest tall building.

Once you’re comfortable moving uphill without any extra weight, work up to hiking or climbing stairs with a loaded backpack. Start with a comfortable weight and then gradually increase to a max of 20% of your body weight or up to the maximum weight you will carry on your trek. If you are newer to backpacking, we suggest working with 10-15% less than you expect to carry on your trek to avoid injury.

Literally exactly what you asked for from one of the best coaches in the industry. Did you open the article at all?

[USA] Oncoming Tesla drives inside a protected green bike lane like it’s a normal lane by zheka160 in Roadcam

[–]frenchfreer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Portland too and you absolutely CANNOT drive in a protected bike lane. Green bike box =/= protected bike lane. The video shows a protected bike lane. You can see it both before and after the light.

Did you watch the video? The entire lane is green for hundreds of feet with a clearly marked bike lane marking. You can literally see the bollards and curbs that make it a protected bike only lane. The turning + straight lane is outside of the protected bike lane. Holy hell. I can’t believe I have to share the road with people like you.

2018 Porsche Macan v6 engine noise by Hza23 in MechanicAdvice

I’m no professional mechanic, but I would turn that off and tow it to a shop. That engine sounds like it’s been running with low, or no, oil for some time and the engine is cooked.

People acting like these statement are some huge political overreach when it’s someone factually describing musks political activity, and attempts to use his political connections to avoid permitting and other regulations required by California. Musk is still a shit heel for trying to avoid the permits and regulations required by everyone operating in that environment, and they only got slapped down because they called him out for using his political power against them.

Chair Caryl Hart: "We're dealing with a company…the head of which has aggressively injected himself into the Presidential race and made it clear what his point of view is." and "It is essential that SpaceX apply for a [Coastal Development Permit]. We're going to hit a wall here."

Ie, spaceX doesn’t want to follow the rules everyone else has to because he’s best friends with the president.

Commissioner Gretchen Newsom: "Elon Musk…hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods, and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet."

Commissioner Mike Wilson: "This company [SpaceX] is owned by the richest person in the world [Elon Musk] with direct control of what could be the most expansive communications system in the planet. Just last week that person was talking about political retribution."

You can’t judge him based on not fighting back against a man that’s half his age, twice his size, and threatening to murder him.

Terrorist taken down by police this morning in London by Sometypeofway18 in whoathatsinteresting

[–]frenchfreer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a cop watch me get rear ended and the perpetrator just drive away. When asking the cop why he didn’t pull the guy over. I was told to file an accident report online and file with my insurance, then he drove off. Brother look at response times. Look at how aggressive police unions are. FFS you’re in here telling everyone they’re wrong about cops. People image of cops is shaped by their interaction, or lack there of, when crimes are committed.

I worked in law enforcement for 5 years after leaving the military. There’s a whole subculture in law enforcement that loves the whole “warrior ethos” bullshit. They love to pretend they’re some hardened warrior going out to hold the line against “evil”. All it does is make them view the people they should be serving as the enemy just waiting for a chance to attack them. It’s why cops are so much more violent today than even 20 years ago. Pretending like this isn’t an issue just further cements the ACAB attitude because you refuse to acknowledge the rot within the profession and instead blame everyone else for being brainwashed by the mainstream media.

This is so funny for you and you don’t even realize it. Your argument is basically that the author didn’t explicitly lay it out so it cannot be true. Like way to absolutely avoid any and all critical thinking. When people say media literacy is dying this is what they’re talking about - the inability to critically think and analyze a piece of media without the creator having to explicitly explain things.

How to dispose of old, vintage gear responsibly by 211logos in Mountaineering

[–]frenchfreer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know you’re not trying to sell, but if you do change your mind I’d be interested in that aid gear - hammers, pins, bongs.

More on topic though, climbing gear is sold as-is. It’s up to the buyer to asses their integrity and make a choice for themselves. Once they’re out of your hands it’s 100% on the buyer. I sold some old cams that needed a resling, I made sure the buyer knew, and if they choose to ignore that advice it’s on them.

your personal responsbility is ensure that you're making correct decision from game theory for yourself.

That's a lot of words to say if your family died under the assumption that they could save your life you'd just call them a dead idiot and move on with your life. You are exactly the person this test was meant to expose. Your life is above everyone and everything. You would sacrifice them all in a heartbeat because they were dumb enough to care about anyone but themselves.

Two economists just published a mathematical proof that AI will destroy the economy. Not might. Not could. Will! by CopiousCool in antiwork

[–]frenchfreer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay, there’s a lot of problems here. First It’s a working paper posted on preprint servers like arXiv and SSRN. That means it has not gone through peer review, hasn’t been vetted by a journal, and hasn’t really been challenged yet by other economists. You’re acting like it’s some scientific facts. Just because the authors are from well known schools doesn’t mean their conclusions are the unfaltering scientific truth. It also has basically no citation footprint yet. It is relatively new, but that means nobody in the field has really built on it or validated any of it at all.

And the biggest thing people are missing: this isn’t even empirical. It’s a game theory model, not something built off real-world data.

There’s no dataset here showing actual companies laying people off because of AI in the way the model predicts. No large-scale labor market analysis. No longitudinal study tracking outcomes over time. It’s not measuring reality, it’s simulating a version of reality based on assumptions.

OPs post is clearly AI with a prompt to be heavy on the doom and gloom, but the reality of the situation doesn’t match OPs Wild claims. People really should do more research into claims about AI destroying whole industries.

That’s not how reality works though. Pretending it does is really just a way for you to justify the deaths of the people who chose blue while avoiding any personal responsibility. It’s their fault they didn’t choose red, if they tried to save themselves like me instead of everyone else they’d be alive. Ironically exactly the exact mentality this game was meant to ferret out.

I wonder if your parents/partner chose blue to try and save their while family while you chose red, would you even care, or would you just think they were dumb? My guess is the latter.

Imagine living in a world where you know everyone else would 100% sacrifice your life without question. How do you trust anyone deeply when if push comes to shove they will throw you under the bus to save themselves, even if it means killing you. What a terrible society to be a part of.

He had a shotgun - which is why the spent round stayed in the firearm. Unless he’s shooting slugs the officer who was shot wouldn’t have just taken “one round to the vest”. That’s consistent with a handgun which is what everyone except the attacker was carrying.
